Jimmy Durante's famous sign off, "Goodnight, Mrs. Calabash, wherever you are", was a secret tribute to his first wife, who passed away in 1943 after 22 years of marriage. One night they had stopped in a small town called Calabash, which she loved.

It became his pet name for her and he secretly paid tribute to her memory every evening on national TV, leaving the nation to wonder about it until he finally revealed its meaning in 1966.

Interesting, I like little trivia reveals like that, but you know, there will be quite a few who will be scratching their head thinking ...Jimmy who, and a google search will yield an answer, but so many young-uns don't appreciate the classics. Different generations, different appreciations.
