That's a shame, I'd love to know the 'why' for closing the track; Insurance? Overly stringent environmental/noise laws? Escaping California? Selling land for Big $$$? Other?

Thats too bad, what a shame. Wow. I seen that alot lately about tracks closing down. This must be the 4th one I seen. Probably people complaining about the noise, and to build more houses or another highway are the 2 likely cases in my opinion.
The roundy round (90% of facility cost) can't support itself, and it's taking the dragstrip with it.
This is the second closing of Irwindale.
Now I will have one track 10 minutes away, (that no one can use except national events: pomona) and the next nearest will be 100+ miles. This in the heart of what once was "the California Car Culture".
Sad.
Strangely enough, I don't think it's noise, or land values. Irwindale is a strictly business community, all of maybe 500 residents, and the track borders a giant hole in the ground (mining pit?). If noise were a problem, I would see them enforcing their noise restrictions (supposedly a track-enforced muffler requirement) which I have NEVER seen them do.
Bottom line? I think the roundy is losing money hand over fist, and it's not endurable any more for the owners. (But that is just my guess, by a guy who has raced there for 10 or twelve years, since the second week the track was open.)
