Well here the old jalopy I bought. It will put Mt mediocre body work skills to the test. What part of the forum should I post more detailed pictures for a bit of help on how to repair? Thanks for all your guys' knowledge and suggestions thus far.

Hi!
Great color combo and great car!

Simply go to the "Top" banner.
Click on Forums.
Then scroll down to the 10th banner.
"Members Projects and Restorations"

You can post there OR just post questions in the "General" area if you wish.

PS: Is that a V-Max Yamaha?

nice! but we need more pics! what are your plans?

Yeap that is my 86 vmax. I built it from the bare frame. 100 cc engine at 12:1 compression, big valves, ported, cams, undercut trans and chain drive. My plans for the car include back halfing it, narrowed 9" hanging from a 4 Link, a 12 point cage, tubs and slicks and a fuel injected small block chevy with twin turbos. I'm going to strip the car and do the best job I can doing all the body work myself.

I was hoping because I didn't make a fuss about you die hard mopar guys wouldn't even notice! I am cutting the car up essentially anyhow so it's not a big deal to me. I have a dart little m block and forged lower end already that's girdled.

A lot of Chevy guys think Mopar guys don't notice things :D

Why would you put a 100 cc engine in a VMax? I'll bet it sounds like a WeedWhacker from hell.

LOL..Pretty sure that's misprint Runner. Would guess 1000cc. 100cc would be minibike status.

Nice looking Coronet project. 1968 is a great year for mopars. Myself I'd kick the Small Block Chev off the end of a river barge, and use the Ford 9" to hold up a wood pile. I'd guess cheap/easy to find parts is the reasoning behind that. Anyways, your car/your money and regardless, good luck with your conversion. Hope it goes well.

Yea I meant 1500 cc. I need to start proof reading anything I type on my phone. Just got home not too long ago and took another look at it only to find more bodywork nightmares. I guess as I start tearing this thing down I'm probably going to find more and more issues. With any luck I will be able to make it look somewhat respectable. Yea the off brand parts are definitely a cost thing. I'm 27 and can't spend the house on it. I have Nothing with it for engine, trans or cooling system so either way I have to start over.

Please re- think your SB Chevy plans. The Chevy people and the Mopar people, both, will regard it as a bastard. If you don't care, then go for it!! Better plan on keeping it long term as it's value will be compromised. Nice starter project whatever you choose........................MO

Putting a Chevy in it just sucks. The Mopar guys will hate it for the Chevy motor, and the Chevy guys won't like it because it's a Mopar. Better be ready for a lot of abuse.

You won't find much love for that build here. We'd like to see it done up right, but if you're going to frankenstein it you'll get more acceptance on the Hot Rod forums.

You ask for help and repair tips, and you'd get them here. But putting in a GM engine isn't considered by most to be a 'repair'. :)

We are not being rough. Just honest. Putting anything under the hood of a mopar other than a mopar engine is a cardinal sin. I really dont like it for any brand but for mopars its always been a big no-no.

X2.

Most of the time on here it's a "Your car, do what you want" attitude but dumping a Cheby in it crosses the line for many.

Kind of like putting the heart of a pig into a thoroughbred stallion.
Or I suppose, putting the heart of a stallion into a thoroughbred pig.... depending on who you sleep with.

Welcome aboard n ill put it to yea this way a small block chevy will make a lot off ponies but a big block will make big horses. Have fun with your build, just keep hood shut n nobody will notice.lol
