Put a new fuel pump on my 65 coronet with the 318 when I pulled the engine to replace some freeze plugs. When the car came back form the transmission shop, it had a knock. Did some checking and then pulled the new fuel pump off. Knocking went away. The angle of the end lever where it rides on the cam in front of the timing gear is different from the original. I'm looking to where I can find a correct one. Thinking about installing an electric pump from Mr. Gasket for about $50. Anyone else use an electric fuel pump on a low horse engine?

Get the correct application. Just went back to mechanical after several electric pump failures. For street and reliability the electric pump wasn't worth it. No noise now either.

Where is the best place to buy a correct fuel pump. I bought this one from my local owned auto parts store thats been there since 1970.

Not sure. Got a Carter sourced locally. Have you browsed Summit? Someone here knows.

I think the last one I bought for my 1962 318 poly was a mechanical Carter from Amazon. I am using the same one for the 2 bbl on my 4 bbl edelbrock.

I agree with everyone, get the right fuel pump. The hidden part of electric fuel pump conversion is the time & money you really end up spending. Wiring, correct mounting, hacking up you existing fuel line system, fittings, regulating the pressure or not, all could turn into a nightmare. It's just a fact, electric fuel pumps have a shorter life span than a mechanical pump. The $50 impulse pumps are junk. I bought one (tried two) for my motorhome generator and they wouldn't even pull the fuel from the tank.

I use the Mancini Racing exclusive Carter street/strip pump.

It may be overkill for you but feeds my 505" stroker fine.

Junkyardjunky, I put one of the MR.Gasket pumps (1to4 psi) on my Chrysler (360) and removed the mechanical.Thought this will never work, son of a gun it ran and drove just fine.I did put the mechanical back on and now use the electric as a primer/backup if needed.

Thank you everyone for the info and input. I ordered a correct fuel pump from my local parts store. Has to be shipped in. Will take a few days.
