Well, sorry to bug everyone, but I have yet another lame-*** newbie question.

I'm trying to replace my old turn signal assembly in the steering column, and found a great link showing me how to go about it. The only problem is that once I get the steering wheel off, I'm faced with some sort of adapter plate for the Grant Wheel the previous owner had on the car.

Has anyone pulled this off before? I cannot see any definitive mounting system, yet am reluctant to start start prying it out. Do I need some sort of removal tool?

Here is a picture of what I'm dealing with...

Not a super-great picture, by any means, but I hope it shows the metal centre section - which almost appears to be a simple friction-fit - and a wood-fibre sort of panel behind it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The three holes around the steering shaft should be threaded. You will need a pulling tool similar to this one on ebay to do the job right. You can find them in most auto stores at reasonable prices and are worth their weight for jobs like this.

This particular one can also be used for removing harmonic balancers which is also a loathsome task without a proper tool. It will pop that sucker right off.

Thanks for the tips, guys! I found a steering wheel pulling kit locally - cheap, too! -and will update soon.

As to the gas pedal - I recoiled in horror when I first saw it, but my wife cracked up when she saw it, and said it just HAD to stay in the car. I have to admit...it's growing on me.

Gawd, I think I might need help!

I know it's been a while but OP would you happen to know the location of this write up? I can't find anything using the search function :(

..never mind. IDK why but I wasn't getting any results. Slow connection.

Glad you found it on your own, as I'm sure I could never dig it up again.

And, since we're revisiting this thread, I did get an inexpensive puller which did the trick quite nicely, and has been useful since!
