I'm watching the Mecum auction at Kissimmee, FL, and they auctioned off an unrestored Mercedes convertible. They showed a shot of the engine when the hood was up, and it was covered with dirt, grime, oil smudges, smears, hand prints, and the usual mess that builds up an engine over time, and the announcers were gushing over the "patina" on the engine and how that made the car more desirable.
So the next time the wife or friends comment on how dirty your engine is, you can say "that's not dirt, it's patina!"
