hi kids. ripped the interior out of the "orange car", and am in the midst of restoring the interior. all the panels are perfect..EXCEPT...being from Cali theyre all sun faded. i decided to try this stuff i seen at the auto supermarket for painting plastic called " Krylon Fusion". comes in a rattle can and is not any more $$$ than any regular rattle can paint AND IS FORMULATED FOR PAINTING PLASTIC . i think i am going to paint the entire interior since it has seems to bond well and it looks great. the sun faded the panels from black to grey....this stuff worked great. i painted the center console last night and tried to scrape some off this morning and i cant get it to scrape off .

i thoroughly cleaned and scrubbed the panels with SIMPLE GREEN .. dried them with an air hose...wiped them down with lacquer thinner (no they didnt melt )...took it in the house in the warm basement ( yeah its 36 degrees here now).. let them warm up and painted it with the fusion paint....wow...looks new and its durable! thot id share this with yinz n@

thanx a bunch for the info dog.i was thinking of trying that stuff ever since i saw it on the shelf.good to know that it works.

ill get ya pix soon enuff....the whole interior minus the dash is almost painted and damn does it look brandy new! ill get some before and after pix for ya

OK...heres the result of the plastic paint. before and after pix. i accented the piece of trim and painted it orange because it needed "deluxxed up"..so i painted it the color of the car and to give it some color . this stuff is AMAZING !!
it lays on super nice and ya dont get those "tiger stripes" that rattle cans just love to stick ya with. these pix really dont do it justice...but im sure you can get the "jist" of what a difference it made. as soon as the carpet gets here and i make a headliner backing board, it will be all together. ill have to make one coz i cant find one (72 AMC Javelin if anyone knows of any links).. so there ya go MAR_PAR.. i seen a bunck of colors at the store so youre not limited to just black !

Which black did you use?Gloss or semi?
i used the gloss black. i wish it would show up better in the pix , but its NOT overly glossy, they actually look brand new (minus the 40 years of wear ) ...kinda like semi - flat...almost. im happy with the results!...VERY happy ! now that i used this on the Jav...i can get to the
belvederes kik panels...coz that is flaking off...dude didnt use the right stuff, just plain old rattle can paint and the gold color is showing thru.

They look great.... But were going to need a few songs on your guitar.........

Anything black plastic can be brought back with WD40. When plastic starts to fade some of the olis used to make the plastic have been lost. This also works on many black painted surfaces.
