when i was just born my dad had two older probably 70's landcruisers or Chevota's as he called them. i know this isnt a toyota forum or a chevy one but i trust you guys. i wanna build one like his but i dont remember anything about it because when he died my a$$hole cousins from South Dakota came and took them and now thats what there driving and i just wanna know what should i do, what size engine looking at maybe a 454 because my mom thinks thats what my dad had or something like that.

Off the top of my head Land Cruisers came with an inline 6 that was an old GM design and I think it was based on the 194 / 230 / 250 family and not the 292. Not sure about getting a 454 in there but lots of 350 conversions running around.

Put a 318 in one. You'll have a way better vehicle. Oh and my opinion is I like *******.

gonna go 327 like he did, racing seats, dual exaust just everything then maybe build a 77' C/10 shortbed 454 like he had i just want what he had and i know the later in life it gets the harder it will be to build them

A chimp can put a small block chebbie in anything. Do somethin different. Make it your own.

i would but i want something to remember him by, i dont have a single thing to remember him by. not a single picture or anything, my aunt and unclle took everything. :/

I get what you're saying. I really do. I have almost nothing of my father's. But think about it. No matter how hard you try, it will not be the same vehicle. In the end, it will have a crappy small block in it that has absolutely nothing to do with your father. I would think about it. Because between the two, there is zero comparison. Good luck with it regardless.

350 sbc was the popular mod of the day.. had friends with Landcruisers.. they were great stock but the 6 banger was under powered and a sbc 350 is the cheapest power to be had so.... thats what they got

Not to be too much of an ***, but good luck finding a 327.

a guy i know has one he was gonna put it in his 69' camaro for some rediculous reason but he went 408 instead :p

Well....I'll say this. As CHEAP as later model chebbies can be had, I'll be damned if I would use something as archaic as a 327. You can pick up a vortec 350 roller motor for a song and make some decent power if you're gonna be stubborn enough to stick with chebbie. But like I said, I wish you luck however you do it.

I think its more of a sentimental thing rusty.. but I agree with you as far as power to money ratio

If your dad was alive and did it today would he do it the same way as he did before? Or would he do it better. If this is something you want to do in honor of your dad, do something that would make him proud. I didnt know the man, so only you can answer this. Do the exact same thing he did, or do it better. You can put a sbc in it, or make it more modern and driveable by putting a newer LS motor in it. The modern motor will make more power, get better mpg and just be a better all around driver imo.

The LS motor is another good idea......but then so is a 3G Hemi.
