Harbor Freight Tools for Schools

This is an awesome program. Hopefully it will expand exponentially through out this country. The skilled trades are in great demand to be filled as the boomers retire and pass. A lot of these skills pay very well and the kids don't need to worry about 4 years or more of college and the debt that comes with that. They need to bring back the shop classes in the high schools for the younger generations on this. Like the lady said in the video, skill trades are the infrastructure of the overall infrastructure:thumbsup:

I forgot.....thanks for posting this article Pops1967GTX

We bought a $20 "Sawsall" knock-off and abused the crap out of it. Still works great

cool award,
great to recognize the people working with their hands
skilled trades/shop & ROP classes etc.
I hope the funds go to the actual shop classes too

I'm not a big Harbor Freight guy,
but glad they are giving back

Gotta give them props for giving back, haven’t seen anything like this from any of the big name brands

Definitely.. bring back those school shop classes, I learned tons in wood and sheetmetal shop.
Also went to Vocational classes in Auto Mechanics. There is so much good that can come out of it.
Its all good IMO!

Im glad somebody is giving back, kind of pathetic its a company that supplies this country with cheap crap tools. Recently at a local welding supply the counter guy told me there is a real big post board at Lincoln Tech welding school. He told me every square inch on the board is filled up with ads looking for welders. Note that these companies are willing to take entry level welders.
Guys I've worked for tell me they cant find a guy who can weld and fabricate in the field using only basic tools. If they dont have a MIG welder there lost, cant use a torch and cant read a ruler. Don't even think about doing pipe work

Great program!! Technical school gave me the necessary skills that I needed to survive. That seems to be lost on the kids of today. I can weld with the best of them. There isn't much that I can't fix. I almost never have to call anyone to service my home. All of that starts with a trade school. Thanks for the great post Pops.

HF tools maybe cheap but most will do their intended job. Some times even a one time use and it will pay for its self.
Can not imagine them being any worse than the old sk junk we had to rent years ago at the community college.
I hate loosing tools even cheap ones. But a complete set of inpact sockets can be bought at HF for what one or two Snapons will cost.
Loose one just replace to whole set.

It is good to see someone supporting the trades.

PICKED UP THIS 3 WAY ADJUSTABLE 800 LBS. CAPACITY TRANNY JACK FROM CHINA FREIGHT WAS $159.00 HAD A COUPON GOT IT FOR FOR $119.00

I completely agree but and this is a big but. If your a working full time mechanic HF tools will never last. Impact sockets will wear out fast with constant use. I have a HF angle grinder i bought to keep at my daughters house. As a welder I've used many small angle grinders from when they first got popular. We are hard on them and they last only so long. Thats HF one, well its got hardy any use and the bearings sound terrible. It seems to have enough *** behind it but the bearings are already going and i hardly used it. Sure i can buy 5 of them for what id pay for one Metabo but that Met will last and last for years. I will admit though the hand tools seem good enough for the weekend mechanic

That's great they are giving back. There should be more trade schools. My dad went to trade school for electrical and mechanical engineering and made a good living. Not everyone is made for college. And college, sometimes, isan't all it's cracked up to be.

As for their tools, I have some. Not bad overall. Have a little compressor for blowing up tires, and their polisher for waxing the car. As long as you know you are buying cheap Chinese tools, and intend to use them as such, they are fine. If you think you are getting big brand US made quality and ecspect to use them 24/7, then you are only fooling yourself.

Quality even in name brands, well it just is not there. Yes they have great replacement policies. But just try repairing something. The responce has been parts. O we dont sell parts just complete units. Just try sending an electric tool to a manufacturer service center. For the cost might as well just throw it away and buy new. I feel lots worse tosing a 300 dollar tool in the scrap pile then a 50 dollor HF equal.

I have some HF sockets and extensions and I would say they are of equal or better quality compared to Craftsman.
