Has anyone seen an upgrade to coil over suspension for a 1973 roadrunner.

I was wondering if anyone has seen an upgrade to coilover shocks for a 73 k-member without have to change the whole thing out

these cars aren't really made for a coil over front suspension, at the Indy swap there was a vendor there with upper lower control arms designed for a coil over set up. Let me see if I can find their catalog and I'll send the info over

Thanks I appreciate it. If it's not worth the effort I may just leave like she is and just upgrade the discs and brake if system

I don't think it will be worth it IMO, I would go with a good double adjustable shock, sway bar, and maybe some poly bushings. Will be much cheaper too

That question will be left up to my son. It is his car. We are just working on it together. I am just glad he decided to get intrested in my hobby too. But knowing him he is tight like his old man and we will go that route

You can swap upper and lower control arms to whatever you want but where things fall short on the Mopars is when you put a coilover in. These cars were designed so the torsional forces apply at the crossmember. A coilover moves those to the front frame. And regardless of how strong of a K member you put in there, the twisting motion still occurs in that forward section.

It can be done, BUT the shock towers need to be beefed up a tad
the inner fenders weren't meant to support the full suspension weight
& the punishment
BUT;
the LCA needs to be modified, hold/support the rear side of it,
if you take the torsion bars out

I'd think you'd need to go to Tubular or highly modify/open the UCA's
to clear the Coil-over shocks/springs

Magnumforce Racing $599
sell an adapter & Coil over kit, to put the coil-overs in the OE location
if you're not trying to autocross push it really hard
or really corner hard at track speeds, I've seen it used/done...

IIRC they sell the shock to coil over adapter separately too...

IMO the lower control arm is the more critical issue, if you went that route...

I'd love to stick a go-pro on the firewall and watch the flex of the inner fenders with that setup !!

I wouldn't bother I was looking into the complete magnum force setup ($6k ish) and in all honesty I love molar because they mopars if I wanted a trans am or mustang I would buy them (hell of a lot cheaper) but you can do some bolt ons not alot of money and make these big ol cars move purity good around turns . Get hemi torsion bars ,energy suspension bushing kit (make sure you get the k frame bushings there not included in the kit) hochkis has a Pittman arm and idler arm that cuts your turn radius down alot! Spend a bit of cash and get good shocks I can't believe how many times people dump cash in there cars and say it still is spongy around turns I look under and it has blown out stock shocks or cheap off the shelf Gabriel's or another auto part store brand ! You got to spend all bit the shocks I ordered were $189.99 each! But I plan on asking alot out of my charger so I have to beef her up the right way ! If you need specific help you can msg me I have been into a few 71-74 b body's ah maybe 15 by now ! Good luck .

Quick read k.i.s.s. keep it simple stupid (no offense )

I have a 73 Charger, same front suspension, frame rails, firewall, inner fenders, etc. MagnumForce is the only company making coilover conversions for B bodies made after 1972. Someday I'll have one of their setups in my Charger.

I'm not sure if you're aware, but 73 and up b bodies don't mount the shocks into the inner fender. Instead they're mounted in a bracket behind an inspection plate. The Magnumforce unit mounts their coilovers onto a bracket that bolts directly to the k frame and frame rails.

just put new everything in it( poly bushings ,bilstein shocks , new torsion bars ,disk brakes if you don't have them already ) mopar engineers were pretty smart people .

Torsion bar suspensions are race derived.

The benefits include better handling, better and easier adjust-ability and easier/safer servicing.

About the only drawback is encroachment into the exhaust routing areas.

Replacing a torsion bar system with coil springs is a step backwards and a crime against engineering and technology.
