In simple terms, what works and what doesn't? I'm building a 472 HEMI for my 66 Belvedere based on a cherry date correct block and I got a set of the MoPar aluminum heads that I plan to use. Someone said Cometic?? What about the good 'ol Fel Pro or similar? This is something that I don't plan to tear down and expect it to run for a long time with regular maintenance. Not a garage queen but a street car that will be occasionally driven. I don't mind spending a few bucks to get it right. Thanks for reading.

I have had no issues with my Fel-Pro's on my small blocks.
I've heard great things about Cometic.

Same as Rumblefish, never had a problem with good old Fel Pro's. Fel Pro's $35 bucks.Cometic about a $100 bucks.

Thing about Cometic is that they'll make a head gasket to pretty much any thickness you need, so if you're looking to tweak your compression ration one way or the other by varying gasket thickness they may be an option. If you're starting from scratch and haven't done any machine work yet, choose your pistons carefully, deck the block accordingly and you can avoid having to use a $100.00+ head gasket. For those who are doing a head swap or trying to lower the CR of an engine to make it more pump gas friendly, they're certainly cheaper and easier than yanking the motor and pulling it all apart.

They require a very smooth finish on the block and heads in order to seal properly. Keep this in mind if you do decide to use them.

Meep gewt the cometic gaskets, iused them on my Hemi and they seal the best. Multi layer and also put a little silicone around the water holes. It is noty a wedge Motor, chambers are bigger and your dealing with Aluminum heads.

im using cometics on my 581 ci aluminum indy headed hemi. ni issues.

Thanks for all the replies. Cometics have been highly recommended, not only here but other sources I spoke with. I also understand they require a much smoother surface to seal against.

Thanks for the HEMI ****!!! I needed that.

Cometics are the best you can get them from .027 and up if you have a world siamesed block you need to call and order a special one.
