Got a set of Hooker super comp headers from ebay. He said they fit 62-65 b body. When I installed them, the tie rods ends are up against the header. I heard about using later 66 newer k frame tomake work. Some say easy others say don't doit. I'm stuck with a set of $4oo headers I can't use. Any advice?

Ding the headers where they make contact with the tie rod ends. If you try to use the '66 up K frame it will sit the engine about 2 inches further back. You'll have to fab a new trans crossmember and then the tail of the trans will sit too low in order for the bellhousing to not hit the firewall. Racers have done this in order to gain a little bit better weight transfer but not worth the aggravation in my opinion. I did it and wound up ditching the later K in favor of the correct one.

Does your engine need supercomps? They have 2" primaries and are too big for all but the most serious engines. I have a set of cheapie BlackJack 1-3/4" primary headers, listed for '66 and up but they fit just fine in my '65 Satellite with a 440.

I put Hedman Huslers on my 64 BB Belv last spring. Same issue. a little heat and a hammer fixed them. The passenger side collector also rubbed on the side of the trans and the tube by the hi torque starter needed some work. I bought the same as the old ones and used them as a pattern. Work alright now. I'll be putting Manifolds back on eventually. Less headaches overall

I'm thinkin' a little spacer under the trans mount could raise it a little. How much additional clearance do you need?

More than I would have expected. When I had the late K (out of a '68 RR) I had to drop the tail of the trans quite a bit before it would fit without hitting the trans tunnel. If you don't mind massaging the tunnel, shortening the driveshaft and whatever else you'll have to do to make a bastardized combination work you could do it. People have tackled bigger problems than this but I don't think it's worth the effort, especially when there's parts out there that will fit your application without jumping through hoops.

Can't help you with what you have but Hedman 78030's fit our early B-body bigblock cars like a glove!

Boy, thats good to hear...!

Yup, mine went in 100% no problem on my 64 with a 440 4spd.

The BlackJack's I mentioned in my previous post are basically the same as the 78030's and yes, they fit perfectly. One small ding near the torsion bar and one near the back of the starter was all I did and that was only because I wanted a bit more clearance. Probably didn't have to do it.

What engine and what part # are the headers you have now?-that don't fit.

I've got what look like Hedmans on mine;1-3/4" pipes with about 32" primary length. With lots of help and advice from this crew(THANKS,guys!) they went on rather easily. Had to run a mini-starter('91 Dakota/360) and make a couple of dents at the starter and driver's side torsion bar,but no other spots. Only had to raise the passenger's side of the motor to get that side on and installed both headers from below the car. They're made for both B and RB mill applications;mine have the collectors tight to the floor pan. That's fine,as road(-kill) clearance is premium around here.

Some pics-since we like pics.

Those 2" pipes might have bends different enough from a smaller diameter pipe for the clearance;and aren't the Hooker S.C.'s meant for '66-up applications?

Awesome post guys. I was looking at TTI headers for my 64 Polara but now after this
posting i have changed my mind. They will bolt up to stock heads for now.
Any changes if I change to a set off Edelbrock heads?

These aree Hedman 1-3/4 tube headers on my 63 and they fit great. I will be installing my new TTI 2" tube headers with my new eng so I will sell these. If anyone is intersested just let me know. Ron
