Has anyone refinished their headlight bezels themselves…any hints or steps you used to do it would be appreciated…. Also any recommendations on paint brand etc?

I am in the process of doing mine 67 GTX I sent them out to remove all the dents also stripped and polished and he replated them I will be doing all the paint work Totally auto Inc sells all the correct colors needed for the process in spray cans hope this helps

The best tip I can give is to SEND THEM TO 5.7 HEMI!! He restored the grille and bezels for my 69 RoadRunner, and they turned out fantastic! He does great work and was a gentleman to deal with.

I did all my stainless and aluminum trim on my Challenger and Belvedere. The hardest part for me was removing the anodizing. I sanded it off which was time consuming. It can be removed by soaking in a lye solution. After that I removed dents with a piece of old hockey stick handle filled to the shape of the inside of the part I was repairing. I put the tool in a vice pointing upward. That way I could set the part over it and lightly tap with a hammer. I would take a few swipes with a fine file. Then use a small punch or pic to raise the low spots. After getting the shape back go progressively finer with sand paper until it's time to polish, 1500 for aluminum, 2000 for stainless. It is not necessary to sand the entire part with heavy grit, only the damaged areas. If you chose to have the aluminum parts re anodized make sure EVERY PIT is gone. Otherwise the pits will show up as white dots. personally I've done many pieces that were not anodized afterward. They look great with a once a year light hand polish. I would start on a scrap piece first. Youll find it's not hard to get nice results.

Thanks dvw…mine was actually restored about 4 years ago, but the guy who had car before me drove it quite a bit in the summer on highway and got a bunch of chips on the black painted part from bugs….so I think i need to try to just repaint the black part the best I can…the argent part still looks excellent and the anodizing still looks good.

Just today, I painted my 68 Sattelite grill with Totally Auto Inc. dark argent textured spray can paint. Making it look like a Roadrunner grill. It came out much better than expected. I would have to put it beside a factory finished grill to see if there was any difference..........................MO

When I used that on the edges, it gave a nice soft edge like the factory appearance had and did not leave that hard paint line. I used the SEM Trim Black and the textured argent paint from Totally Auto for the inside part of the bezels. I posted a pic of them over on my resto thread for my Dad's car. The title of the thread was something like "Bringing it back to factory specs".

Did you use the dark argent textured, and do you think it was as dark as the factory paint?.............

I'd have to go back and see what paint I used from Totally Auto but whatever the color was, it was a dead on match. It might have been a little coarser with the texture, but then again, the piece I was comparing it too was 45 or so years old and could have worn down.

Yes, I think yours is the light argent color...beautiful restoration on your car...............................MO

Please call Skip at extreme metal in florida very reasonable with correct anodizing did my 67 gtx ,shop first very good quality
