Ok need some help, I decided to take off valve covers on my new car so I can ID the heads since the 440 is a 78 date code I better find out what I valve. I got these numbers off of # 3 intake runner
3482 46 and 2301 on #1 intake runner. What do I have?

Check again, could it be 3462346 which are 1971-72 BB heads.

on the ends just below the valve cover are there 2 raised vertical ribs cast into the head, sticking out at you?

Can you post a picture, or, check the other head?...should be a 7-digit number and it seems like you have '346' castings but the '3' is missing..

You just tree'd me LOL! I agree though, they look to be the earlier-70s 346 castings.

Not surprised at all to find them on a later block. Even if they were factory-installed.
Some funny things went on with the later 70s stuff. I believe that the factory knew the RB was on it's way out and was using leftover parts when they needed to....like the forged crank that ended up in my untouched '78 RV motor. The block even had the 'E' stamp on the pad!

The passenger side has a 452 head on it. Looks like I have 2 different heads:(

Someone may have slapped that 346 on due to a problem with the other 452, it happens...they are so similar I don't think it matters.

I do have a pair of 906s, it doesn't smoke at all if the bottom end checks ok I will leave it.
