Is the heat riser really needed on hp manifolds. I'm looking at buying a set with a bad heat riser, can it be removed and plugged?

thanks

I've removed them and welded the holes shut.

Not an issue unless you are planning on doing a lot of cold weather driving.

Yes, you can remove the flapper and just put the shaft back in to plug the holes. I did exactly this on my hemi Charger and even left the weight so it looks stock.

As long as it's not stuck in the closed position it won't be a problem.

I had to cut 'er out and put a bolt and nut through the hole..

If you can have an operating heat riser it will make it start and run better with the choke working the way it was designed
but you do not need it

I've also seen people drill and tap then put a bolt in then cut off the excess

The bolt and nut arrangement is a good fix as well as drilling and tapping for a pipe plug. But after seeing Mar's pic of the GTX in the snow I'd say he can use all the heat rising he can get!!!!

LOL yeah, right??

The set I'm looking at the spring isn't working and it's stuck open, so would it be ok to just leave it and have the factory look?
