Hi all, so I tore down my heater box a couple months back, and now I'm putting it back together, but had a couple questions:

1) The blower motor - this is supposed to rotate counter-clockwise, right?
2) The door that controls weather air goes to the defrost vents, or floor - how is this mounted to the pviot shaft? I forgot how this thing was on there, and it can technically go on 4 different ways! This is the door that is slightly angled on one side with curved edges and I need to know does it go in with the mounting screw towards the defrost vents, or towards the firewall, and which end goes left and right.

Thanks!

Hey Fish,

Just finished and installed my heater box in my 68 RR. Blower does turn counter clockwise. Screw on that door faces outlets for defrost, and curved end is to the right, if sitting in car, also the foam attaches to the backside of that door. I had some of the same issues that you did. Then I discovered a picture I had taken inside the car before the box came out. Just so happens the angle of that picture showed the correct position of door. I just took some pic today of box installed. Also send some of during box resto. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the quick reply! Yes, that pic and description should do it. Is the metal plate above the fresh air vent (on the far right) a repair? FYI mine was also busted about that pivot, and I had to repair the fiberglass there, too.

FYI I'm wrenching on a 70 RR Convertible now. The morons that owned it before me had removed the heater box assembly, and installed aftermarket AC. I'm now in the process of restoring the heater box, steering column, and dash...basically everything on the passenger side of the firewall is getting replaced or restored.

I've been taking pics along the way and will post them as I get some free time out of the garage!!

Looks like a very nice job! Did you have a stamp made to duplicate the part number or did you tape it off? I went through the exact same thing with my heater box a couple of years ago.

Awesome, glad I could help. The plate I think you see on the far right is actually part of the bracket for the cable. I was amazed when I found that the original blower mtr still worked so I tested it several times, cleaned it up and just repainted it. Also this box has the original htr core in it. I flushed it really well and put 20lbs pressure test on it for about an hour. Meep, I did tape off the original number because it was different than most (has a factory smear on the end ) it just blended very well. I actually bought a number decal that could be used instead. Paid about 9.00 for if someone wants it. Looks like a pretty good repo.

Oh crap, that cable bracket for the fresh air vent door was MIA on my box when I got it...there was only a hole in the fiberglass where it used to reside - time for me to fab up a new one then!

Question is what purpose does that stopper tab perform on the vent door bracket? I'd think the cable length would prevent the vent door from opening too far?

Not sure why it was designed that way. Mine actually has a ramp coming up to the stopper tab. Also after you install the vent flapper, there is a small piece of rubber hose that goes on the exposed llever. Did you buy a rebuild kit ?

Yeah man, I picked up the rebuild kit from DMT, along with a rebuilt blower motor (the orignal was seized), and a new heater core, to boot.

Now if I can just get the rest of this heap together...LOL.

I taped off my numbers and painted around them. But I did buy a repro sticker that looks pretty reallistic. Still have it. You can have it for 9.00 . What I paid for it. Just PM me. It even has a slight smudge on it like normal.
