My heater core is leaking and i want to re-route the heater hoses to make a U-bend at the firewall and water pump until the new core arrives. Would this hurt the water pump since it will not be pumping water to the heater core and back? I don't drive it in the cold months and never use the heater. This is an automatic 500 cid 1969 Coronet R/T with no a/c.

Won't cause any issues at all.

You'll get cold feet if you bypass that heater core. But do it anyway lol. Won't hurt nothing.

I looped mine after my heater core broke with no issues. Was looped for probably 10 years until I finally replaced the heater core.
