The heater plenum on my 66 Charger is open to the inside and I can see the blower motor. I do not see a hinge or screw holes to hold a cover but suspect a cover is missing. The 66 manual I have shows a slightly different plenum shape for the regular line of Dodges. Those have a hinged door with a lever to secure it. Is there supposed to be a cover and if so does anyone have a picture of what it looks like? I could make a cover but with the car having A/C there is not much room to install it. Maybe with gasket sealant.

I think there should be a door there to change between normal and max A/C

This is in my 67 box. I have 2 of them. Both same

Dang. I did not consider an inside door and could not see low enough to tell if there is an actuating lever there. Will look for that next. Is that a foam lined door?

Well...I jumped the gun again w/o operating the system. I previously activated the A/C to see if it had freon but due to the very hot weather we have had did not try the other controls. So this morning I ran the car and when pushing the various buttons I saw the door flip into view. It tucks away out of sight when in the A/c position and remains there when the system is turned off. But...going thru the various controls I found that the defrost position is not flowing any air. I can see the hoses are attached but maybe there is another position with an actuator to change the flow. The manual might help with that but since the charger has a different unit that may not be the case.

The air flow heated up so that was good news and I learned more about the lower air flow with those dials below the dash. So mostly good news but no defrost, which I will need in the winter. I apologize for the posting with incorrect information. Still learning and need to be more thorough before asking for help.

I am curious though if the plenum should have a cover on the door. It would seem that debris/dust/dirt could eventually get inside the blower housing. Might not be an issue but the larger 66 cars have a door on that area.
