Hi guys, new member, but restoring a Mopar from the rust pile.

You know those guys that have cars in their barns who say they will restore those old cars we drool over? Well I finally convinced one to sell me my dream muscle car.

I have a 69 Roadrunner coupe (not a hardtop). Its a 383 car but engine and tranny are long gone. So, I am making it a 69.5 440 six pack auto. I have an era correct 440 from a 71 charger and its tranny. The car needs lots of work, lots and lots of work. I have had it a year and I have it torn down to sheetmetal. Body work needed just about everywhere, but that is what I expected.

I planned to "save" this car from the rust pile. Its not the best candidate for restoration, but its just my hobby. All I want is to drive it, not sell it, not show it, just drive it on Fridays and weekends. So making it a perfect resto is not my goal. Its a car and I want to drive it.

I hope to gain some insight from you guys. If anyone wants to donate some old (but not perfect) parts for cheap, drop me a line before you toss them.

Thanks
Randy

BTW-I also am almost done doing a resto-mod of a 73 Triumph Spitfire 1500, for fun!

Welcome aboard. Congrat's and good luck on your mission. Keep us posted on your restoration.

Here are some pics of the RR.

First is the day i brought it home.
Second is what it is today
Last is the spitfire in primer.

Is that a 66 Biscayne,Impala, or Caprice I see beside that Road Runner?

Good call, its a 66 Impala. When I picked up the RR, the guy also pulled the 66 impala and a 67 GTO out of the field and rattle-canned them for sale. I didn't want the chevy and he wanted way too much for the GTO.

Yes, the flat black paint is all rattle can applied to help cover how bad the cars were. Gotta love country boy thinking!

I just wanted to congratulate you on fitting so much stuff on such a small 1/4" plywood shelf next to your roadrunner..Looks like my garage..LOL

You like that? Lets see, stereo, Cd player, die grinder, two impact wrenches, 3/8 air driver, air chisel, grinding wheels, pressure gauges, DA sander, tool oil, all on a particle board shelf. man, you should see my parts storage area above the garage. Its better organized.

Nice RR. Is it going to get a roof replacment in the future? I see one sitting upside down on top of it.

Did you get a good deal from the ol' hillbillies? Looks like it's not in too bad of shape.

The answer is maybe. The roof I got is a OEM complete hardtop in very good condition. The car has a pretty bad dent from a tree that fell on it (some pics show it). After cleaning it up I found that the previous owner liked using bondo and ball-peen hammers on the roof (ugh). Since the car is a coupe, the hardtop roof is not a perfect match. So I plan to use part of the skin and almost all of the supports to repair the roof. So far it looks like it will work out well.

I didn't get too bad of a deal on the car. He wasn't as dumb as he looked. I did get an awesome deal on the engine and tranny though (1970 440 and matching 727 tranny from a charger complete). That guy had NO idea what he was selling.

The one thing I missed which now makes me mad is the rear end is not original and I cannot identify what it is (it isn't the 8.25 std or dana 60). I may post pics and ask when I get to that part for advice.

Randy

Welcome!!! She'll make a fine driver! The best part is, you would have done it all yourself!!!!! Could the rear-end be a 8 3/4? any part numbers on the side of it??
