Hello. Randy from Michigan here, long time mopar guy. Spent a good portion of my childhood racing (in my head) dad’s 1970 barracuda. New to sign up but a long time creeper to the site. About a year ago I was able to purchase ‘66 charger. Mostly all complete minus the drivers door panel. I found one and have it all installed. The charger had been sitting in a barn from what we could tell based on registrations for 34. Believe it to have been a one family car, we think “grandma” bought it and after passing her son took and put it up. My buddy ended up buying the farm and the car was left. Being a Chevy guy he asked me to get it out of there. It took us a couple months but we were able to get the motor running. After that had to let it sit until my garage was completed so I had a comfy place to work. Over winter and spring we have so far replaced all of the brakes from the master cylinder out, fuel system from the tank to the pump, radiator, water pump, thermostat, trans filter, rear end (original 2.94’s were getting noisy and added 3.55’s with sure grip), rear springs, shocks (kicking myself for not taking advice and spending on the bilsteins like recommended here),rebuilt the carb, local muffler shop bent up some exhaust (have a little clearance issues at the shocks I’ll have to look into), freed up the rear windows, really put some elbow grease into cleaning (still finding evidence of mice every time I rip into something), adjusted valves and gave it some timing. I’m sure there is more but getting long winded on the list. Plan on “grandmas car” being a rolling restore little at a time when the kids aren’t asking for money. Would like to keep it as original as possible with some factory type upgrades. We have put quite a few miles on it at this point maybe getting up near 1000 already. Hoping we can keep driving through the summer months and start putting a to do list together for winter. Few pics of the charger where we found and after some serious cleaning. Its not perfect but a blast to drive, and I’m sure I can find a little trouble with the poly under the hood.

Welcome to FBBO from Ontario. Nice score on the Charger! Thanks for the pictures.

Wow! Lucky dude! That's pretty mint!
Grab some wheel covers and flip the headlights!!

Nice!! And pretty much anything and everything you need is out there and available for it. Welcome to the group Randy!

Welcome from NJ. Nice ride!

Welcome from over Ann Arbor way. Nice little gem of a car you found there, it looks like a lot of fun!

Nice first gen Charger. The first car I ever bought back in 1986 was my '70 Charger, but I checked out a '66 or '67 (can't remember exactly which) and I loved that full-length console. It made me think of the interior of an airplane.

Thanks all. Headlights are next up on the list. I’ve checked the wiring and everything seems to be good going up to the motors. Switches seemed to be doing their jobs and I showed voltage with the switches being cycled manually. Then when I tried jumping the motors got an initial movement and then nothing. The PO’s had everything unhooked so thinking the motors had quit on them. I’ll pull them apart and work on cleaning them up a bit and see if I can get them to spin (seat time has taken the place of wrench time currently). Wheels were still wearing the old bias ply when we brought it home (unfortunately no caps to be found) and I found a pair of 70’s 14” wheels that had been cleaned and powdered coated. They had descent rubber and the price was right. I’d like to find 15” just to make it easier to find rubber. But these will do for the season I have a “problem” not using something as long as it has life in it. If not able to find 15” before the tires are done I may clean the rings and center caps back to metal and give it a little shine down there. Hopefully get to take it to town tonight for a local show

Full length console was 1966 only.

Full length console was 1966 only.
Thanks, my previous post had a brainfart moment. I meant '66 or '67. D'oh. '68 - '70 are 2nd gen. So it must've been a '66 Charger I checked out. That full length console seemed like the bee's knees to me back then!

Welcome from NY.
Nice one and you've already done a bunch of good repairs/updates.
Keep us posted on your progress.
Hard to beat the Pearl White interior.
