Hello All! New to the form, old to Mopars. My first car was a '69 Roadrunner in 1972, I had just turned 16. Bought it from my older brother. That car is long gone and now I'm yearning for a replacement.

It was in B5 blue with blue interior and about as plain Jane as you could get: 383, bench seat with auto on the column, 3.23 gears. That was a fun car!

Wouldn't mind some options, A/C would be nice. Also P/S, P/B. Hemi is out of the question, too rich for my blood but wouldn't mind a 440. 4-speed? Maybe. Also looking as GTX but they're nowhere near as plentiful.

So far just window shopping about 20 or so of the on-line dealers. Looks like prices for nice clean ones start at about 60K.

-Steve

welcome to FBBO hope you find what you’re looking for

Happy hunting! Be careful in your quest, you want to inspect things carefully and avoid the all-too-commonplace slap & dash cars that look good on the outside but hide a ton of major issues under the sheets. Fortunately at your price point, if you're careful, you should be able to find a car in decent shape.

Welcome aboard Steve! IMHO bringatrailer and ebay are two of the safest online 'hunting grounds'.

Welcome to FBBO from NorCal Sierras

what's your budget ?, what kind of $$ do you want to spend ?

I'm on my 13th gen-1 1968-70 RRs, they just find me somehow...
my current 68
68 RR LL1 10-29-2017 #4a PS frt.JPG

I was hooked on the 1968 Plymouth B-body style (pretty much the same, relatively)
on the day my parents went to order a
brand new 1968 Sport Satellite 2 dr HT at SF Chrysler Plymouth, for mom
I climbed all over the RRs at the dealership,
mom wanted the Sport Satellite, dad wanted the RR RM21 Post Coupe
mom won out
& in Nov. 1967 it was ordered (I was 8 y/o), my Mom's 1st ever new car
330hp 383 4 speed, dealer installed 3.91:1 & Suregrip, 15" polished slots
& Uniroyal raise white letter 70s front & 60's rear tires
(org parts 3.23:1 gears & 14" chrome roadwheels & tires were put in the trunk,
my stepdad was a S/S racer, he got it his way
)
That 1st car was GG1 dark green & white bucket seat interior & top
I eventually owned that car too in 1979, till about 1989 (?) after owning several already
I'll sale one, most all of mine were all real RRs, I'd get bored, sale & find another one
or they'd somehow find me...
I've now had my last/recent RR now since Dec. 2005

good luck in you quest

Yeah, I'm concerned about that. For now I'm leaning toward places like Hemmings.

Nice looking GTX. Interesting family history by the way with the new '68 RR. Hot setup with 4-speed and 3.91 gears. My other brother owned a 1968 Road Runner in bronze at the same time my first brother owned the '69. Yes, '68 & '69 are pretty much the same both years except for grill, tail lights, and side marker lights (round for '68, rectangular for '69). Budget wise I'm thinking 60-70K unless I can't find something I love for that amount. Not wanting a project, been there done that. In my teen years bare bones was what I wanted - no extra pulleys sucking horsepower from the rear wheels. These days I'm more into creature comforts. Sport Satellite would probably be OK but I want it to say Road Runner or GTX on the badge.

Welcome. You’re in the right place for advice and assistance from members owning/restoring these sweet rides. I’ve restored three vehicles in the last 40-years from rust buckets in the rust-belt (where I reside) to a never salted CA car. Others I did some tinkering with…partial restores.

As mentioned above, yep, be informed of what to look for and how to spot it. You’ll get lots of good tips here. I’m at the age now where I won’t be doing any more major resto’s. If I get the gumption to buy another classic or muscle, it would be more turn-key. ONE thing that would put my mind at ease, buying a ‘restored’ vehicle is a photo album made on the restoration. This is something I did on my current ride I didn’t do on the first…well that was in the 80’s when taking pictures required a camera, lol. On my last two, my phone with camera was nearby taking I’d guess some 300 photos. If I sell my car someday, prospective buyers can view it in about every phase of the restoration…to a fault. Chatting with a guy who bought a sweet turn-key Plymouth, in his trunk was nicely organized photo-album of its restoration. That car I wouldn’t have had any problem plunking down the cash for it…knowing what it IS I'd be getting.

Welcome from the central coast of Cal. Check out some car shows, especially Mopar, for potential buys. Its better to eyeball the potential car in person before you plop down your dough.

Welcome aboard from Ohio. You just missed a ‘68 RR 3miles from me, 42k was asked, but it sold. Was a gorgeous car,saw it in person.

Cardinal rule of buying ANY used car - never buy one that you haven't either a)laid hands upon yourself, or
b)had a knowledgeable inspection service check it over on your behalf.

Welcome from Alabama, you should be able to find a very good car at your price point.
