Just stumbled upon this forum.
I've got a 68 Charger R/T that's a basket case. I've had it for about 20 years. I worked on it for few years after acquiring it, but then life got in the way.
I starting to get the bug to get it going again. It looks like this forum could be a great resource for help.
A little about the car.
It's a legit R/T with clear title; although the fender tag is missing and I don't have the build sheet. The story I got from the original owner (who was a little shady so I'm not sure how much I trust him) was that he had a friend who worked in a bone yard. That friend saw a 68 Charger being cut apart and crushed. They saved the car, but not before the from frame had been cut off and scraped. He then had a front frame and with radiator support and inner fender panels professionally welded on, but I think it's off a 69 B-Body. But it was done well.
So, not sure if I believe that story or not (maybe it was in a wreck?), but the work was indeed done well. The car is actually pretty solid. I replaced the trunk floor, outer wheel houses, quarter panels, and rear valence.
Since the car would never be numbers matching I have always planned to restore it as a clone of the 68 R/T I had in high school (which I foolishly sold for next to nothing soon afterward).
That car was an R/T with 440, a 4 speed, bright blue, black vinyl top, no bumble bee stripe, dana 60 with 4:10 gears (I believe that was a dealer installed option), no console, power steering, manual brakes, no air.
I'm sure I'll be posting a ton of questions as I get back going again.
Thanks.
