I'm told the better 727 Transmissions to build are the 71-76 model years?
Any Comments? How do I determine what year is currently in my 1965 Coronet or what year one is when looking at one out of a car?
Thank you!!

that is straight BS.

the best trans is the one you make with the right parts.

67-69 dodge truck transmissions are the best to start with, -IMO- bare bones, no comfort controls...(wuss engineering.)

the later or new the trans the more controls were implemented to make them more streetable.

the controlled load front or 2nd gear servos make for really mushy upshifts.

the best thing that come with the later 70s transmissions are the part throttle kickdown valves, so you dont have to smash the car to the floor when you just need a little gas to get around that pesky Hybrid POS in front of you on the interstate.

they can easily be added to any torqueflight valve body with three screws.

the truck trannys no frills construction combined with some Hemi or Max wedge governor weights and a quailty rebuild kit will make a killer street trans

BTW, i too have a 65 net! 4 speed.

If you need a need a heavy duty transmission look for one off a HP, Hemi engine or a powerflite truck transmission. Ineards and tailshafts are way more important than the case.

Any 1967 and later non lock up will work fine. I like the 71 and up reaction shaft with the wide bushing ( it supports the high drum better). If your core doesn't have one you'll need a 4 plate high clutch retainer(drum). They are available from rebuilder supply houses pretty cheap. The late servo can be shimmed solid by using 2 bronze input/output thrust washers in place of the spring. Use a 3.8 K.D.lever and a good valve body. 3 pin planets are fine. Tan Rabestoes clutches are fine. I've put many 10 second laps on this style build without issue. If you want high automatic upshifts purchase a governor from A&A
