I just installed a new booster and master on my 68 Charger last weekend. Also, I upgraded the master cylinder and went with a unit correct for a 1974 Duster. I'm in the process of bleeding the lines. I did not "bench bleed" the master before bolting it on. I noticed that went I push the brake pedal to bleed the lines, the pedal stays down. I have to reach down and pull the pedal back with my hand to get it to return. I realize there is a lot of air in the system but this seems odd to me. The pedal returned fine with the old booster and master. These are the only two parts that I changed. I'm doing the bleeding process with the engine off. So far I've bleed just the rear lines and still do not have hardly any pedal (maybe just a little). Any ideas of what's going on?

Thanks

Hey I had the same problem...You really should of bench bleed the master....You can get a cheap bleeder so you can power bleed it yourself....I had to add a return spring from my pedal to get it to return properly....GO VOLS!!!!!

Isn't there a spring in the booster? This should have the pedal return to normal. Unhook the lines from the master, get a mc bleeder kit from the autoparts store, hook up 2 lines to run back into the mc, and pump till no air bubbles come out. Then reconnect the lines and bleed away.

Thanks for the help and advice...and yes GO VOLS!!! I'll disconnect my lines from the mc and "bench bleed" on the car. While bench bleeding the mc on the car, should the pedal come back with out having to pull it back by hand?

Yes it should.

Well....I disconnected the brake lines from the mc this weekend, but the pedal was still really stiff and would not retract unless you pull on it pretty hard by hand. There was no change from when the lines were connected to mc. Root cause is the new booster. I called Booster Dewey in Portland, OR. and he explained that this is a common problem for a new booster if it's been sitting on a shelf for a period of time. I boxed it up today to get it rebuilt.
