I am purchacing a motor for my ol Satellite and need to try and have it decoded, I have only the number on the intake manifold, its a 2bbl intake and the numbers are 3698 440-w. The gentleman I am possibly buying it from swears its a early-mid 60's 440 but I have never seen a 2bbl 440. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. The engine runs great but I dont know if it would be worth buying if it isnt what I want and that is the 440. My car is a 318 now and runs fine but I really would like to have a 440 under the hood!!! very  confused

My reference book doesn't show that number, but a 3698444 is a 73 440 4-bbl, 3698442 is a 74 400 4-bbl. Yep, never heard of a 440 with a 2-bbl. Check that casting number again. http://www.mymopar.com/intakecastnumb.htm is a site listing intake casting numbers and what they go on. Good luck!

I think you'll find that it is a 1973-74 2bbl 400. Look for the casting number on the block.

Thanks, I am going back out there tomorrow and check it. Is the 400 a good motor? I really know nothing about it. I have owned a couple 440's in the past and loved them, and a 383 or two and they weren't terrible.

A couple of thoughts....

440 wasn't available until 66 so there is no early 60's 440.
No 440 2bbls.
An RB manifold would not fit a B engine very well.
I presume you've checked the proper pad for CID, model year, etc??????
