Help in removing side vent window frame

Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong or missing. I need to remove my side vent windows to have rechromed. I got the 2 bolts out under the plastic plugs, the one Phillips screwdriver just below the window and the one bolt holding the long arm bottom inside the door. The frame is moving but will not come out. Is there another bolt(s) than I'm missing?

I'm not sure since I have a 1970 (working on the same thing you are right now). My car has a plug/hole with an allen head bolt behind it inside the car, top of door, right at the division channel (back of vent frame)…. I "think" this might be where you have a phillips screw.

I "think" what you're missing is two nuts, inside the door hinge area, just below the top hinge. At least on my '70, those two nuts hold a "triangle metal window frame brace" & had to be removed. That "metal triangle" also has one nut inside the door itself where the triangle attaches to the vent window frame & I had to reach my arm up in there to loosen it. Hope This Helps!

sounds like you have them all. They do require a bit of convincing to come out though. At the front of the frame is a fork that rest on over a bar in the door frame. There may be some corrosion in that fork area. you can spray some penetrating oil up there and then from the top of the a frame with the door open push forward and up to release the seat on the bar. You should then be able to pull the entire unit up. I am assuming you already have the main widow removed since that has to comeout first.

The fork area your talking about is free with no rust. I did not remove the main window. Did not know this needs to be removed first. I can't see why it needs to come out since the vent window in along the sides. What am I missing?

The fork area your speaking off is rust free and the frame assy is moving along free this area. I did not remove the main window as I did not know it was required. Why does it have to be taken out first? The vent window is on the side. What am I missing?

The main roll up window rides inside the frame of the vent window and like I said the vent window needs to go forward at the top before you can then lift it out. If the roll up window is still in place it will prevent you from pushing the a Frame forward.

Well, I'm not sure how close my '70 is to yours, but I did not remove the main window. It would make it easier I'm sure, but the factory service manual (for '70) says to "lower door window all the way, loosen the bolts, tilt the top of the vent wing BACK and pull up. It worked for me. I did have to wiggle, tug, wiggle, tug.

Aeon280 is right that the main window front "channel guides" ride inside the back of the vent window, so that makes it a little tougher to get out. I do plan to re-do those main window "channel guides" & re-install the main window/vent frame all at once (per recommendations on Tony's parts I believe)...will probably be easier than "push, wiggle, push, wiggle" to get it back in, especially with new "channel guides"

You can see here how the front part of the frame wedges down under the door jamb. This is why you have to tilt it forward a bit then pull up
