Hi there ... my name is Brian. My parents bought a 1968 Charger in the summer of '68 from a dealer in Rochester, Minnesota. It was our sole family vehicle for about 10 years. I have a older brother and younger sister, all three of us came home in this vehicle when born.
Parents divorced in late 70's, but my father knew this was my favorite vehicle on earth ... he saved it for me in his garage and on my 18th B-Day, he gave it to me (year was 1987). I was completely surprised, thought he would never part with it.
I joined the Army, left the car with my Mother while in basic training and AIT. Well, long story short ... my mother really hated my father and that car sitting at her house just didn't sit right with her. She decided to sell it. I was not happy to say the least ... but what was done was done. It was gone.
Year after year, I have wondered what had happened to it, if it was still on the road, etc.
Well, I've turned 50 this year & decided to take on the task of trying to find it.
Here is what I have:
- 1968 Charger, Red w/ black vinyl top.
- 318 engine
- Bucket Seats with center console, black interior
- Air Conditioning
- Wood Steering Wheel
- Purchased summer of 1968, Rochester, MN
I know it's not much. But it is what it is. I have no VIN or Plate number. Basic VIN decoding gives me a partial of XP29F8 + assembly plant & last 6.
I've read that 68 Chargers used a shipping order number for last 6 of VIN versus a sequential number? Is this true? Hoping that there is some sort of registry or way to look up what was shipped to that dealership that summer to help locate a complete VIN so I can try finding it that way.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Brian
