1962 Plymouth Belvedere.

I'm doing some body work to get it ready for paint and have a question on the build sheet for my car.

First, the car has been repainted coral gray (code T) sometime in it's past. It is lacquer. The top is white and is original due to single coat of paint thinning around the edges. I have always noticed that the door jambs, trunk, underhood, floorpans are lighter in color than the exterior. Not white like the top, but not Coral Gray.

Now to the production track sheet. In the "PAINT" box, it shows "WT" and the "STYLE OR TOP" is listed as "2". Now confusion sets in. "W" is Ermine White and "T" is Coral Gray. Why is W listed first if the color is suppose to be T? What order did they put the codes in?

I am almost tempted to repaint the entire car Ermine white as I have seen pictures of a gorgeous 62 Fury in the same color, but another part of me wants to keep it as close to original as I can.

I couldn't get any good pictures at this hour, but here are a few of the perp...

threewood,

Let me see if I can copy to a file my paint ref. For 1962 Plymouth my chart says (WT2) is W=Alpine White T=Sandstone 2=Two Tone. What is on your fender tag?

Nick

WT2 = the car was a two tone. The top was painted white and the lower part of the car was painted sandstone.

Paint code T =

Buff when on a Dodge
Sandstone when on a Plymouth
Coral Gray when on a Chrysler.

Same color, just different name for different car lines.

Fender tag says "WTT." It appears to have been painted twice, once from the factory and one time after. As I feather out the edges, the base layer is a maroon primer, color coat, gray primer, sandstone. And here is a good pic of the paint color that is on it right now with the old finish underneath, after polishing out...

This entire project started because I was wondering, "why doesn't the headlight trim ring fit properly!":sad1:

Did you happen to notice your paint and trim codes are transposed on the tag? This is typical of 1962 Model year cars built at the Lynch Road plant.

the WT on the tag tells us it was a two tone car. We really do not need the numeral 2 on the tag to tell us that. Tag space was limited so putting the 2 on the tag is redundant and that space could be used to code something else.

A thought...

your interior codes 113. I'm going to assume that is a cloth and vinyl seat in cocoa.

I'm next going to assume the second T on the fender tag indicates the paint color used on the inner upper door panel. Being really lousy with colors and color combinations, I'm going to assume this is some sort of tan color to complement the interior décor.

Sound about right or what color is the inner upper door frame painted?
