Is anyone of my Racing Pals out there running a "deep grove" pulley on their alternator.
If so...can you post a picture of your alternator with that pulley installed with the belt in place.
As I have outlined on a previous post I am having trouble fliping my alternator pulley belt.
I installed a Meziere electric water pump and have only a belt running from the crank to the alternator.
The crank pulley and the alternator pulley are dead on lined up. I installed a "new" belt for this setup after I installed my new Meziere electric pump and took off the belt drive water pump. That belt flipped off on the first run.
That belt sat down into the alternator pulley where the top of the belt was exactly level with the top off the V of the pulley, but it flipped it. That belt was a "cheap" $5 belt at Oriellys.
I then bought the $19 Gates belt which seems to be much stiffer in construction but the top of the belt actually sits about 1/64" of an inch above the V of the alternator pulley. Havent made a run yet with this belt.
I was hoping that one of you guys had actually found a source for a "deep grove" alternator pulley and could post a picture of it and where you got it.
Thanks, Mike

Mike,
I use the March pulley set . I do still run the waterpump . I have never flipped or thrown a belt since fitting these

The problem when trying to line up pulleys is the alternator. Big and heavy its hard to work with. So you need to simulate the alt with a large spacer that accurately represents it to within 1/16". Now hang the alt and bracket with the long bolt and snug it up. The other two mounting points need to bolt up without flexing the bracket at all. Adjust as needed. Install real alt. If you need to shim alt out, shim all three points.

Mike, I'm running about the same setup, crank & alt only. I have a Powermaster 1 wire alternator with their deep grove pulley and a Doty/DMI deep pulley (5.75 inch diameter) on the crank. I can't remember exactly but my combination gives me about a 2.X pulley ratio which is recommended for not over spinning the alt. Works great, no problems.

THANK YOU....

Where did u buy the alt and pulley ?
I bought both pulleys direct from the mfg.
Powermaster - I've had great customer service with them. Give them a call direct. Measure your alt shaft diameter first and your existing crank pulley diameter if your going to keep using it.
Doty/DMI - They make great stuff. https://www.dotymi.com/

I have a serpentine on my car and wing the motor pretty high and don't have any issues.

also check to make sure you are not getting too much flex or vibration at speed.if you get too much flex it could throw a belt easy.
