I need to identify my camshaft in a 426 hemi. Here is a photo of the end of it behind the timing chain cover.

It looks like someone was smart enough to etch the cam identification number right on the end of the camshaft. That was a brilliant move! Just search the number

my stab at it: hydraulic roller 286 (probably advertised duration), .345 lobe lift, 112lsa, 66230 is probably grind number.

Strange. Looks like a HR-286-349 which is probably the grind number referencing HR-Hydraulic Roller, which is odd in a hemi and the 286-349 which is probably duration at .020 or something... Hydraulic rollers in a hemi are a special kind of pain in the ***. Is it a roller? Got solid roller lifters on it? Lol

It looks to me like the numbers read: HR 226-345-251-12 662307

Thanks Hemirunner! This engine was already in a 70 cuda that i bought and it runs great no issues. What is the pain in the *** issues with a hydraulic roller cam?
Pushrod clearances which depends on lifter cup height and issues with QC on the lifters causing plunger sticking issues.

Most guys end up swapping the lifters out the HR lifters with solid rollers.

I wonder if i should do that while i have it apart. Also 2 of the pushrods have bright blue paint on them. Anyone know what that would be for?

Which of those cam spec numbers is the one that the tranny guy needs to get the correct stall for the converter?

I doubt that cam needs anything more than a stock 10 3/4" converter. I use a stock street hemi converter with a wedge engine that has noticeably more cam than that and do fine.

The engine dyno sheet, car weight and combo and application would be what the converter guy wants.

If you had no issues just put it back together.
