there is a lot of knowledge on this site and i would like input on this step.
i am just about ready to put the hemi into the 69 coronet, the 318 is out.
the motor has been sitting, covered, in my heated shop for 6 years. i have
all the tools needed for any situation.

what do you you figure i should do while it is still out before installing and
fireing. i have a good idea in my mind of what, but would like to hear other
suggestions.
you only get one first time to do it right. thanks guys; rick

do you have the correct hemi k frame or conversion mounts for it to fit in or you running a motor plate?

Drop that sucker in,bolt everything on.Prime it real well, maybe remove a spark plug tube on each side to verify oil up to the rockers.Set up VIDEO camera and yell "fire inda hole" before hittin' the start switch:bootyshake:

Is this a new motor that was never ran? If so then I'd make sure the cam has a good coat of oil on it. And use the good stuff with high zinc and phosphorus content or add some EOS or ZDDP to the regular oil.

Not that you have to do this while the engine is out but I always like to boil a new thermostat just to watch it open. I have had them stick on me so I'm a bit paranoid in this area.

Double check that you have all the block plugs in place, freeze plugs, oil galley plugs, etc..

Do you have power brakes or manual? If you have power brakes the booster will interfere with the valve cover unless relocated. HEMI cars had the booster relocated upward for this reason.

thnx meep; couple of things there. thermostat to boil, zinc in oil. i put in tex ursa just to spin the oil pump but i will put in additive and spin and crank some more. the motor has between 1000 to 1200 mi. on it, long story there, by a trustworty, older, knowledgeable, gentleman. all this prep i can do now on the floor is a way easier than old days of put it in and fire. manual brakes for now till in and running. gives me something to do next. thnx; rick

Well, 1000-1200 miles means it should be well broke in. Still will need good oil though. I'll even send Murphy on a wild goose chase to keep him out of your way for a while :buttkick:

I think he is talking about Murphy as in "Murphy's Law" and I think before you do anything you need to truck that elephant down here to Rochester so I test it for ya.:worthless_thread:

Exactly right! Now here is everything you always wanted to know about Murphy's Law but were afraid to ask -

...The Law's namesake was Capt. Ed Murphy, a development engineer from Wright Field Aircraft Lab. Frustration with a strap transducer which was malfunctioning due to an error in wiring the strain gage bridges caused him to remark - "If there is any way to do it wrong, he will" - referring to the technician who had wired the bridges at the Lab. I assigned Murphy's Law to the statement and the associated variations.[8]

And one of my favorites is: "there's never time to do it right but always time to do it over".

more pumping oil yesterday. had to switch to 1/2" drill. the 3/8 was working to hard and smokin.
hey meeps, brought the new thermostat in at supper time and asked the better half to throw it in the potato pot to see if it opened. jeez sometimes she just dosn't have a sense of humor. i will ask her to put it in the kettle in the morning for her cup of tea.:icon_axe::icon_axe:

Excellent! Maybe you need a tea bag T-stat disguise kit.
