Herb's Interior Paint

Hi everyone,

I am getting ready to spray my interior vinyl dash pad, glove box, and plastic trim pieces.

What is the proper way to prep these pieces. I washed the pieces with dawn dish soap twice. I was going to use sem plastic cleaner and then bulldog adhesion promoter before painting.

How should I prep the vinyl after washing it with dawn soap? Does it need any bulldog? Should I use acetone or Sem vinyl cleaner? If anyone has used Herbs Paints please let me know the best method. Thanks

I contacted Herbs a few years back on how to paint interior car parts. They sent me this email. Start by using warm water and soap, and followed that with a good scrubbing with Acetone. (I did it twice, using a soft bristle brush.) This will remove any cleaners and/or waxes that have been applied over the years. Herbs developed their own proprietary interior paint, that is a new formula that penetrates the surface of leather, vinyl, ABS, PVC, Polycarbonate, acrylic, Lexan, metal and Polypropylene. It forms a molecular bond that restores or changes the color permanently. It drys quickly and does a very good job. I was very happy. Good Luck.

All I can say is I used Herb's DK Met Blue #1177 for a replacement defroster grill and kick panels. The color match was not even close. Hope you have better luck.

Clean with soap and water then clean with wax & grease remover then use adhesion promoter.
I've used bulldog but I recommend duplicolor CP199

The first time I used Herb's i laid it on too thick and the pigment swam all over the plastic. I have a gun-metal interior and it didn't seem I could ever get it to look like the original. When I took more time and laid three light coats on it looked perfect. Herb was good to help coach me and even replaced the cans in which I made a mess with. He and Ruth are pretty good to deal with and Ruth always remembers me and the car Im dealing with. Herb is good to visit with at the meets.

Any one have info on where to buy it from ? I need to touch up so parts for the charger will it do the metal trim around the windows too? I'd like to keep the shade of black the same.

Also, if you are doing a dark blue interior make sure you don't need Navy blue instead.

I have used Herb's Dark Green and I'm very happy with the out come.

I thought maybe you where on to something, but I have a '69 and the color in the web page is exact. The "Metallic Navy" is listed for '65 - '67. Pretty sure I had the right stuff, just didn't match.

Maybe I'll bring the can with me to the Power Tour and hope they have a booth set up and see what they have to say about it.

I used some metallic red for a rally steering wheel center cap. Looked great. I think I just prepped it with rubbing alcohol.

I guess I will use adhesion promoter on the plastic pieces but not on the vinyl.

I will also use some SEM soap for all the parts. What is better acetone or sem vinyl prep on the dash pad, arm rest bases, glove box?

I've used TSP on both hard and soft interior parts in prepping for paint/dye with great success. Just follow the instructions on the carton.
