I got this 71 Charger last year minus the engine and trans. It's a factory L code 2 barrel 383/auto. GY8 gold with gold interior and no vinyl top. Power disc brakes and A/C are pretty much the only other noteworthy options.

Plan is to do a driver type resto on it. He wants it to be close to the fender tag. Repaint it GY8 and source a new bench seat and keep the interior gold. We will add the R/T side stripe to break up all of the gold. I have another set of R/T taillights that I may add to the car as well. He also wants steelies and poverty caps. I picked up some 15x7 Diplomat steelies at the pick and pull a few days ago

I'm thinking a Magnum 318 or 360 with a 727 for his first engine including the EFI. Then slowly build a 383, 727 and 8 3/4 as he gets older.

We've been slowly body working it to get it to paint. It had been hit behind the passenger door and had some very amateurish body work so I had to cut a partial patch out of my 72 parts car to fix it.

 hello from s carolina, nice to see your boy working on it.

Nice, to get the young folks involved. You are teaching him things that will make him hands on for life.

This is awesome! The skills and the feeling of how hard work can be rewarding in more than just the finished product. The time you are able to spend with your son and the memories you are creating are priceless. I know that all the mechanical and shop skills I learned from working on old Mopar's with my Dad and Brother, helped me with the myriad of skills I use in my everyday life and Professional career today. Way to go Dad!

Nice to see the young man helping! He will love third gen Chargers the rest of his life!

Good stuff. Always enjoy seeing the younger generations showing an interest in this hobby. Sure wish my kids did.....

Nice to see some young ones getting into the old cars, heck of a first project car...

My first memories with Mopars were cruising in my friends 73/74 Charger, Def Leppard blaring and smoke rolling into the car from the rear tires thorugh the rusty trunk and quarters...Ahh good times!

Thank you. I had to beg my dad as a kid for help. He quit cars when he started a family.

It took a little for him to come around to the idea. I didn't want to make him do it.

I think one of the deciding factors for him to get involved was when he had a friend of his over. My son was saying how he had a 71 Charger and the other kid pretty much called him a liar. Later we went to get something to eat and I drove to the shop where the friends jaw pretty much hit the ground. He told my son that with that car he'd be the coolest kid in the school.
