I'm interested in asking the members on here that have this style of scoop on their car how it's installed?

I'm wondering if it's just bolted right down to the hood whether or not it wears away at the paint on the hood caused by vibration if any?

I was considering perhaps placing small rubber washers at the bolt locations to keep 1/16" - 1/8" space between the bottom edge of the scoop and the hood surface.

Is it something that I should worry about or is it not a problem?

What do you all think?

Here's a couple of shots of the car. A few more details and I'll be taking her back home.

Maybe just a small bead of clear silicone. That will come off easy as well if you pull the scoop. Hand tighten the nuts/bolts, let it dry, and tighten it the next day. It'll also be an unnoticeable gap. Haven't done one yet, but it's on the list.

Would you ever use the hood without the scoop not what you have it on? If not I would worry about it. I just took mine off my glass hood to put on my steel hood and it had some minor scuffs and scratches when the scoop had been sitting - but I don't think I would ever use the hood without the scoop in it anyway...

Thats the Max Wedge scoop and it looks great. The Hemi 64 cars go the wider flat scoop that was about 2 inches tall and did not drop in the middle. Both scoops look good to me. I also have the Max Wedge scoop on my 63 and it came with studs in it. I just lined it up and drilled the holes. It is holding up fine. Thats a real nice looking car you have. Ron

joe, you wont have any problem as long as it stays tight against the hood.

So do most of the guys that put them on make them functional?Or no holes and just for looks?I like to drive stuff rain or shine, pretty big opening and looks like it would scoop the rain as well as air.

mine are totally functional. why put on the scoop if your not going to make it work.
how many times do you drive it when its raining ?

If it were me I would use Black silicon rather then clear as clear often yellows with age. I would put it under the scoop, bolt it on tight and use a sealer edge squegee to finish it off. That way it will look seamless on the hood with no gaps.
