I have a 69 Sport Satellite that did not have a hood when I bought it. I found a hood in excellent used condition. There are two sets of holes for the hood latch, one set has the threaded holes where the original latch was and the other set is blocked and untapped. If I put the latch in the threaded holes is does not line up with the latch hole in the grill support. If I place it over the untapped holes it appears as it would line up. Why is this? The grill support is not the original, did they change the location of the hole from 68 to 69 or from Sport Satellite/GTX to Satellite/Belvedere/Road Runner?

Hood Latch location

Check the AMD site. They make hoods for the 68 GTX/RR that have the latch holes either in one place, or two. As I understand, the early 68 latches were moved, and stayed in the new location through 68 & 69.

That's my story, and i'm sticki'n to it!

That's interesting, I have never seen this before. I will have to tap the other holes, maybe I have an early 68 grill support.

fine. Looking at your top pics I see two holes next to each other. Those are for the safety catch that fits in the large hole to the right of the latch assy. The hole by the lever on the latch support (the part with the spring) is for the vertical latch support piece that ties to the lower part of the rad support.

Look for the painted bolt on the latch support. Hard to see the bolt in the bottom pic but it's there.

Yes, I know how it all goes together. The thing that I didn't know is that early 68s had the large hole for the safety latch in a different location (closer to the spring) than late 68s and 69s. I did some measureing on a few cars at a show on Sunday and zyzzyx is correct that is the case. I need to tap the two holes to the left in my first pic to make the safety latch hit the hole.

Sorry, I wasn't on the same wave length I guess. I didn't realize there was a difference probably because I never had to deal with it. Sounds like you have it sorted out.

It was new to me too... I guess because I have never mixed 68 and 69 hood latch parts before, live and learn as they say.
