Has anyone found another alternative cable for the $100-150 hood release cable , for a 1973 b-body (Roadrunner) ?

Would a universal 9- 10 foot cable work ?

Thanks for any advice

How long did the original cable last? "If", n that's a big if, the new cable is made the same, then 100-150 isn't much. I use cables a lot in motorcycle clutches n throttles. The way the lead is melted/crimped to the ends varies and can make or break it. Guys try to cheap out on clutch cables all the time, the have a lot of tension on them and are operated many thousands of times. Cheap ones come apart quickly. I'm sure the hood release is similar. I know the one in my truck has to be pulled quite hard n has since new. I can't imagine a cheap cable on it.

That is a great point, definitely would not do that on a clutch,
