Anyone try fitting a tachometer on the dash pad directly over the center of the steering column? I assume a hood mounted tach might do the trick.

The hood tachs are designed to be looked down on along the hood's sight line. Placing it right in front of you on the dash would mean you have to shift focus from the road to the tach to read it, which is not good. Also, since the dash pad has an angle to it, you would need to lift the back of the tach to get it straight and that would look funky.

Yeah, but I see tachs on steering columns, in dashes, even under dashes. On top of the dash would be less of a focus shift than looking further down, wouldn't it?
