65 Belvedere, 1/2 horn ring. How do you remove the steering wheel?

I see no obvious way to remove the centercap to access the ring bolts.

The steering wheel is 1/3 of a turn off. very annoying. Tomorrow I'm going to check if the steering box is correct (same turns L and R)...if so. I need to pop off the wheel and set it straight. Alignment seems spot on......

Help.....

The wheel and column shaft spline have a "master key" so you can't just take the wheel
off and put it back on to fix the alignment. It only goes on one way.

You'll have to fix that with adjustments to the right and left tie rods.

When and if you got get a alignment they should correct the wheel.

I agree. But I bought this car this way. Before I get the alignment re-done. I want to see if the wheel was moved. I know about the doublewide spline... I had an ole valiant where the spline was ground off and you could index the wheel in 1 spline increments.

pull the ring towards you and twist to the left ...

top to the left? or bottom to the left?

How about rotate it CW or CCW.....

thanks
Mike

sorry, CW .... atleast thats how the ring comes off of my coronet ! good luck !!

I know on my Plymouth ,i just push on the center cap with the palm of my hand and turn it to the left.should pop off

Center your wheels and then look at the coupler (column to box). There is a notch that marks center. If it isn't on top and centered, then your problem is all in the tie rod adjustment

probably

I do have the same problem, I want to remove the steering wheel, but couldn't remove the horn ring.
It is hard to push the emblem down and to the left, or like what 65-440 said pull the ring up and to the left.
