hi Bear R.- here, title says it all.i have a 67 coronet 440 and tried getting the gauge cluster out no can do.what do i need to do to get that bottom lip out from the dash?my gauges arent workin so, i need to get back there.hand under the dash isnt gonna work for me.any suggestions?please let me know and a thank you in advance..God Bless everyone here.Barry.:eusa_wall:.!!!

I've been able to roll them out real carefully before...but not always.

Some cars need the column dropped a bit.

Is the big round wiring connector disconnected? Speedo cable? Ammeter leads?

hi barry here.i dont know if the big connector is discon.i will check.as far as the others i dont feel them..and that could be why none of my gauges are woking all accept for my battery gauge that one is.ill drop the column a bit and see .but seemed like it wasnt coming out anyway but could be wrong ..thank you for your handy advice and God Bless you...ps. what other advice could you share w/me?or should it come out w.the column dropped...?take care YY1.Barry

reach behind and un screw the speedo...drop the column about 3 inches...OH....first..disconnect battery...hopoefully it will come out after removing mount screws...may have to pry...disconnect black and red wires on alt gauge...CAREFULLY remove 5 prong connector on circuit board....remove other connectors...simple....lol

I can take a picture of the back of the cluster removed from the car if you would like. The factory service manual says to remove the eight (I think) small screw to separate the bezel from the cluster itself. This is not an easy task! You *should* be able to carefully roll the cluster/bezel out of the dash but make sure to remove the radio first. It will not allow you to tip the assembly far enough forward to get the gauge assembly to clear the hole in the dash. FYI the gauge assembly is actually a bit larger that the hole in the dahs hence why one needs to "roll" it out. Let me know if you want pics!

Has your dash had a new dash pad installed? Had the same problem with my 66 satellite. The new dash pad lowered the clearance at the top of the dash cluster to the point that I had no clearance to get the bottom lip of the cluster up out of the dash frame.

Dont do what I did and take a screw driver and try to pry it out. Yes i got the cluster out but wound up the plastic front inner panel. An orignial replacment is expensive.

At least for me once I got the dash cluster out I discovered a lot of splices in the wiring and am in the process of replacing the wiring.

Like the others have posted make sure the back connections are removed, remove the screws and take your time.

make sure the screws are out(they face up and down)pull the radio, and also check the heater(and ac if it has it)conection point.sometimes the control cables can cause the dash to not want to move.

I ran into the same problem on our 67 project. I split the cluster and it came right out. When I got in there turns out my harness was all Mickey Moused together. My dash pad was cracked and my surround had been wacked for a din mount stereo. Also the bottom of my dash had a bunch of screw holes from things in the past being mounted under there. With all of these problems we decided to do body/paint to the dash and column, replace the gauge surround, replace the underdash harness, replace the dash pad, replace the defrost vents and hoses, add a glovebox light and liner, new dash speaker & oem radio, repaint the cluster surround and glovebox door, reseal the wipers & firewall, and rebuild and paint the heater box. I will finish the bodywork and paint the dash later today when it warms up and put it all back together next week when the rest of the parts get in. If you are in there it is best to do what you can when it is apart as it is a pain and we did not want to have to go in more than one time.
