how do you take rod off of door pull latch

Striping doors down and I dont see how to take the rod off. Was hoping to slide latch and rod out but no go. Cant really see Thats all I have to pull. Thanks Dave

Once unbolted it should pull right out of the door.

Nope tried that twice,rod is curled to go in latch. I just dont see how the clip comes off.

This is what the clip looks like on my 67. I was able to pull the mechanism out far enough to pop the clip off. Otherwise you're working blind inside the door.

One side was on upside down. I think it's the one pictured above.

Never needed to do it, but unhook from door striker/ latch first? Think there’s a retainer in about middle of door to stop rattling. Could be wrong.
