I am ordering a AAR fiberglass trunk lid for my 65 dodge coronet and was wondering has anyone weighed a steel trunklid before.
Does anyone know how much of a weight savings i will get switching over to fiberglass?. its going to be a pin on trunk lid.

Chris, I would say you're going to drop around 30lbs, I would guess. A lot depends on the construction of the glass lid. I'm not familiar with how much reinforcing the AAR has. I'm not sure of the brand of my glass lid, but it only weighs about 8lbs, compared to the steel one at about 40lbs.

I have a 67 lid off the car I could weigh. Probably a difference but I wouldn't think it would be that much. How much does the AAR weigh?

Sled City does, VFN I think does but the trunk lid isn't listed in their online catalog. For comparison's sake, VFN's trunk lid for the 66 Coronet weighs in at 7lbs. Sled City doesn't show weights for theirs, but you could always call. BTW, Sled City is where I'm going to get my fenders from.

56 lbs for the 67 Coronet lid. I have a 67 Belvedere lid too but it's a bit covered up right now. I'm curious to see if there's much of a difference. I would think you could save at least 25 lbs using a heavy duty glass part....

just got an answer from AAR FIBERGLASS.their trunk lid weighs 10lbs.

mine is notched out as much as i can go for my custom oil pan.
im going to replace most ss fuel lines with the black cloth hose. that stuff is heavy.
i switched to the weld alumastars with no tubes. that saved me some weight. removed the outer rear bumper bracket and have the inner ones going to get plasma cut to remove the center section. those outside brackets are heavy.

The rear brackets (4 pcs) are about 14-15#.

thanks.
I JUST REMOVED 2 of the inner brackets for the rear bumper. going to plasma cut the outers and remove the inners all together. that should help some more.
