I have an opportunity to buy a fairly solid 1968 Charger R/T, 440 4 speed, AA1 Silver, A/C, factory discs, buckets console, vynl roof, not a dana car, and likely more. I dont know much else, it is a US car and I know its fairly rare given its a 4 speed R/T but with the options is it something really rare?

Guy wants $7500 canadian.

A friend of the owner has been kind enough to hook me up with this opportunity, there are many other rare mopars, but I am not permitted to tell anyone about the location nor disclose information about the vehicles and the potential to buy them and parts.

Thank you!

17,000 R/T's or so, about half four speeds. Silver is rare, and more than a few did not Have Dana's, contrary to popular belief. The first question is, that drivetrain still in the car?

Well I read that there were 2700 4 speed cars, I know AA1 is rare because its the only premium standard color and was buffed from factory, I didnt know that about 8.75 cars, I always thought the Dana cars were more rare. Neat!

No it isnt, I think it comes with the trans but I'll have to ask about the engine.

Having A/C on a 4-speed Charger is quite rare also. From what I understand, 4-speed R/T's got a Dana while auto's came with the 8.75.

A factory 4 speed 440 car should have left the line with a dana 60. Fender tag still on it? Are the seats still in it. Might have a build sheet in there somewhere.

440 4 speed got the Dana only !!!! could NOT get AC on a 440 4speed.

It is not possible to cross reference options to come up with a production number.
We can know the number of Charger R/Ts, we can know the number of R/Ts with four speed and we can know the number of buffed paint cars but we cannot combine them to determine a number.

About 3.5% of the 68 Charger R/Ts made for sale in the US, approximately 615 cars, came with the buffed paint (sales code 708 AA1 metallic in color). It is not possible to know how many of them were four speeds or what other options they had.

I'd be more concerned about what lurks underneath. Know what you are buying. Be careful. Good luck. Everyone has an opinion, I'd rather buy that pristine near survivor 74 on another thread that is a 318 and put a BB in it.

Learned something new. I had a 69 Charger 383 4-speed with A/C and was told that was quite rare. Just assumed it would have been the same for a 440 car.

I'd say pic it up, chargers are my favorite type of mopar!

Don't worry about what is in the rear. I did own two R/T's, A 68, and a 69 back in 1980. Both had the 8 3/4, and came that way new, regardless of what the books say. Even more unusual, my friend in Houston circa 1987 had a 69' Bee Hemi. 8 3/4 rear as well, and a four speed. He bought it new. Beautiful black car. he wanted 6,000 for it at the time. DUMB DUMB DUMB!
I didn't buy it.

For $7500 CAN grab that up, if it is solid and you later decide not to restore or build it you will still make some money on this car.

more photo(s) would give US a better idea ... IMO

but how complete is it ( as in what is missing ) and does it have any paperwork ( as in build sheet, fender tags, title, etc .. )

all these have a factor in the over all price, regarding the car =0/
