So,as a thunderstorm raged(somewhat) outside, washing the snow away(to a snowmobiler, there are few sadder sights),I thought to myself: "Self, you should work on your car." One of my week-off projects was to remove the Offenhauser dual-quad/twin AFB intake setup. Sucked gas, didn't improve performance(mill is a '64 340hp Chrysler 413),and wasn't enjoyable to drive-for what little driving I did. After I sold my '76 Arctic Cat Z race sled,I bought an Edelbrock Performer 440 intake and found a 600cfm Eddy carb on Craigslist. It was time to install those pieces! I love you Ma Mopar-no coolant draining required! Take that you bow-tie boys!
Removal and install went trouble free. Had to drill a couple of holes in my square-bore(carb) to spread-bore intake adapter for brake vacuum(the 1/4-18NPT hole was drilled and tapped, but there were no holes to the venturis),got some plugs for the other tapped holes, did some quick fab work for the throttle and kickdown and went to fire it up. Yeah baby! After a little priming, she fired, and sat there and idled. It didn't want to do that with the old setup. Jabbed the pedal a couple of times to check movement and response and was very pleased! Still need to check the points and timing, but this should prove to be a MUCH better setup;can't wait to drive it and see how she runs. Gotta get a filter for the $5.00 Moroso air cleaner I scored at a garage sale and replace the small one. Hey,it keeps critters out for now.
Next project: THE HEADERS! Bwahaahaahaaha! Can't wait! Didn't use a lot of cuss words with the intake;I'm saving them for doing the pipes. Of course,I'll ask for advice-I love you guys!
