Trying to replace rear motor mount on my 64 Polara. Need to pull parking brake cable to fully remove the rear motor mount for mount replacement. Cable has strange clip looking thing holding it in place. I can get it off but the trick is not screwing it up so it doesn't reinstall and stay put. How does that thing work??

Rear ENGINE mount? Are you talking about the transmission mount? Engines(motors) do not have rear mounts only on the sides, do you have pictures?

Probably mean the transmission cross member. It is a ferrule mount with 4 fingers that grab the opposite side so it gets pushed in and the 4 fingers grab the backside and hold it.

One way to get it out is to exert pressure on the ferrule and get a screwdriver to push the fingers in one at a time until it comes out. Can be frustrating.

Another way I have done it is get and extended socket that just fits over the ferrule and push it on so it pushes the fingers down all at once and give the ferrule a couple of wiggles to pull it out. A small piece of tubing will work as well.

Mini hose clamp can hold the fingers in to get them started. Then loosen clamp to pull it through the hole.

Is this what they used on the ebrake cable at the trans cross member? My '62 just sits in the hole on the one side of the cross member. You have to take the clamp off of the cable under the floor to let the cable loose. Then just pull it through the cross member.

Yep, mine has the fingered ferrule in the crossmember. I remember it being a pain when I dropped the transmission

If you look in the old dodge parts books they do call them a rear engine mount. They are in section 9 with the other engine mounts.

Thanks for the input gents. I carefully punched it out and didn't wreck the pinch collar. Now that my rear mount is changed out and the trans crossmember is blasted and painted, I'm one step closer to putting the whole thing back together.
