Anyone carry on hubcaps on a domestic flight? I picked up 4 nice original 14" caps correct for a 69 Dodge Coronet in Florida and want to take them onboard an American flight from Orlando to San Jose via DFW. They stack just under nine inches high and are about fifteen inches around. Overhead gets pretty vicious with the panicking late boarders and I'm not sure if they will go under the seat. Supposed to have an MD80 for both flights. Advice please. Should I just ship them. No dents or scuffs and they have the factory paint on them so I want damage free shipping. Will they be ok on the Security check conveyer?

Wear them as a hat?

(Sorry, couldn't resist, maybe someone will have more constructive advice :). Good luck!)

Most carriers allow two carry on bags, so place them in two packages. But I think you should be good with one. The height limit for most carriers is 9", and I've seen bags taller than that go in the OH bins, so if you're just under 9" you should be good to go.

Tell them they are Islamic religious plates and they'll super highway you right on through.

Jamie Passon once told me he has carried tranny parts and tools in his carry-on and has never been questioned. Me, I would wind up in jail first,, without a doubt.......

ship em!you could have all sorts of problems with tsa(my niece is a supervisor)since they are metal.

Just strap or duct tape them to your chest and back, and act like nothing is out of the ordinary...

As **** as some tsa personnel can get,if it was me i would just ship them, but that is just me.That is why i won't ever fly anywhere, when they treat you like a fbi most wanted when you try to board with a fingernail clipper in your pocket.

I'd ship 'em too. Too many possibilities to have problems. Is there a way to ask TSA or the airline?

I was flying out of Pittsburgh a couple of years ago, and a TSA agent asked to inspect my bag. Turned out I had a big tube of toothpaste that had a few days of paste left in it, so I had taken it up in checked baggage with the intention of throwing it out while in Pittsburgh but my son had put it in my carry on bag instead of tossing it. Anyway, this TSA guy started giving us this lengthy explanation of why I couldn't have a large almost empty tube of toothpaste in my bag when his supervisor came over and asked what the problem was. The guy starts explaining how he found this toothpaste when the supervisor cut him off and asked me if I wanted to keep the toothpaste. I said no, and she started barking at the agent to quit wasting our time, toss out the toothpaste and let these guys catch their flight. Thankfully not everyone in a TSA uniform is a moron.
