Hurst 18 spline

Anyone know a good asking price for a Hurst 4 speed18 spline? Came in a recently purchased 67 Satellite with a 440 attached to it, will update when I look at the vin to see what originally was attached. Some help would be appreciated, thanks.

It's a Chrysler A833 transmission made by Chrysler, not Hurst. It may have a Hurst shifter on it, but it's all MoPar. They usually go for between 350 and 1000 depending on what all comes with them. If it's only the bare transmission for instance, it's on the low end of that range and the more that's included the higher it gets. If you look on the passenger's side of the main case, there's a smooth machined pad with some stamped numbers on it. If you post those, maybe somebody here will decode it for you.

An 18 spline can bring close to $1K assuming it's not junk. They are made by New Process Gear in Syracuse NY and I'm petty sure that was a joint effort with Chrysler. Early 18 splines (66-67) had the smaller 307 bearings and no VIN pad on the main case.

Yep, pretty sure you're right about it being a joint effort with Chrysler, since New Process was a Chrysler subsidiary at the time.

I don't know all the ins and outs but the NP tranny's never had Pentastars cast into them like other "Chrysler" parts. There must have been some degree of separation.

Maybe it was for book keeping purposes. Walter Chrysler bought NP in 1934. Daimler-Chrysler sold it in 2004, to Magna.

To the OP, I'd say a good condition 18 spline would be over $1000. It's stronger and more sought after than the 23 spline version.
