This morning the east bound span of the old bridge that connects Moline, IL. with Bettendorf, Ia. was blown up.
The road deck was already gone and the towers were what they were taking down along with the upper cables. The towers came down, but what about the bridge?
My first trailer was a 5x9 being pulled by a 74 D100 with a /6 and sometimes it was loaded up pretty good. Next trailer was a car hauler with a 'better' pickup and remember going through one of the two older tunnels for the first time that we had here and man, I paid attention to the right side curb really closely! The lane was barely wide enough....I can remember being nervous as a new driver towing across that narrow bridge

Yes, if you look at 1:31 it shows virtually nothing leftThe road deck was already gone and the towers were what they were taking down along with the upper cables.
Mine was the family Ford conversion van pulling a 16' enclosed with dad's MCA grand champion winning 70 mustang. My first trailer was a 5x9 being pulled by a 74 D100 with a /6 and sometimes it was loaded up pretty good. Weelll, it doesn't matter what ya pullin.....you don't want things to go wrong. In late 84 I was riding with a buddy with lots of pulling experience when a tire let go on the trailer. My race car just happened to be on it and I was asleep in the back seat coming back from Louisiana when it happened. Woke up real quick to see the trailer nearly 30 degrees twice! I've always been a stickler on tying down the car really good and it hung on.....and we didn't crash. I think what helped is the tire only shed the tread. In more recent times when pulling a car, a tire shredded itself and well, that was fun. No crash at least and the trailer didn't sway much at all. Maybe because it was being pulled by a 6000 lb truck? Who knows?Mine was the family Ford conversion van pulling a 16' enclosed with dad's MCA grand champion winning 70 mustang.
No pressure!
Had a Club Cab lwb dually for a couple of years....gotta watch them hips man lol but yeah, 4 tires in the back sure makes a difference!Crew cab duallys definitely help!
Used to tow a boat seven miles on this old bridge with the trailer light almost over the rail while meeting a semi going the opposite direction. Know the feeling.I can remember being nervous as a new driver towing across that narrow bridge
