I keep thinking about this car, and how I want it.

Before I deployed I found this 1971 Plymouth Satellite at a junk yard in the project section. It was about the only mopar in a sea of Chevys and a few Fords. I think it is all original. It is a 318 automatic car which seemed to be in pretty good shape and no real rust to talk about except on the surface.

I think about it every so often and want to bring it home. I already have too many projects as it is but this one just seemed like a nice project. The satellite thread and popular hotrodding project car got me thinking again how cool this would be to fix up and use as a daily driver.

I really like the look of the 71-72 bodies with the sleek lines and looped bumper. The one thing I would delete is the trim on the side. It looks out of place from the rest of the car. There Might even be a few build sheets in there. It would also fit in with my green Charger.

I guess I have the collectors disease which is not good in the military!

I just thought I would share a picture of the car.

First, I want to thank you for your service to this great nation and for your sacrifice! Those 71's are starting to grow on me as time goes by and that one looks like a real good place to start! Merry Christmas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with you, those bodies are a little too tempting to let pass by-pretty good the org.rims +mirriors are still there.

What Junk Yard are you talking about? You're up in Killeen right? I spent 10 yrs in that frigging place, FINALLY escaped in 2006. That is a nice car indeed.

It is the Little Valley Auto Ranch. I had thought about selling the Falcon off after I complete it. I know I will not use the car much for what it is built for (drag racing). I had more drive to do drag racing when I bought the car.

I think another B-body that probably wouldn't need much work to be driveable would be fun and geared more towards my interests of cruising and the street(not street racing). If it runs, brakes, and drives, and I can replace the windshield I would drive it. We will see what happens. I have less than 50 days to go until I get back.

My two-bob for what it is worth. You could buy it now cheaply, or kick yourself in years to come for missing the opportunity. If worse came to worst you could always sell it on...

Thank You, from all of U.S., Sixpack! :sFl_america2:

Not for street racin!!!! Come on...ya gotta do a little bit!! :eusa_whistle:

build the 318, drop a 400 or even a 440 in it!!! LOL

she looks like a solid candidate for whatever you want!

just keep her on the road and you got my vote!!!

Figgy, you are right. If it is still there and the bottom of the car is not all rotten then I should just do it. I will have the money I can always store cars in Texas, since I seem to be always stationed down in these parts.(really not a bad thing) If I get sent somewhere else I can always use 4 day weekends to consolidate everything in one spot.

Mar, I've done a little bit of racing and nothing gets your blood pumping like stomping on some turd from a stoplight! Although, the ticket, potential wreck, or having someone tell your boss would make for a bad day!

Thanks to everyone for the support.

Sixpac70 I hate to burst your bubble, but that is not a 1971 model, it's a 1972 model. The difference is the side marker lights. I just bought a 1971 Satellite. Have a look at the side markers.

Also, the taillights probably don't look like these.

But still a great car you found!!!
I was an F-Body guy for years and finally found mine.

I could have sworn I saw a 1 on the VIN but a year makes it easy to forget. Thanks for the correction 71Beeper, I checked online for the differences in sidemarkers. It is small, but once you know it makes it easier to identify these cars.

I like that these cars are not something you see on the road very often. Actually, until last year, this is the first Satellite from this generation I have seen in person. I've only seen Chargers and Roadrunners from 71-74.

I have a thing for the 71 and up B-bodies. Around 99 or 00 my dad and I removed a tree from an older ladies house. She had in her a carport a 1977 Cordoba. It was in almost perfect shape and had around 70k miles. I think it had a 318. I talked to her about it and If I had some money I might have offered to buy. She sounded like she might have wanted to sell it.

Now that I am home I saw your car! Wow, it looks nice! I like that color. You have a great looking car.

Thanks Sixpac - like I said I just bought it (Nov. 22nd) plans are to clone it into a Road Runner and make it a 4 speed car as well. Go & get that 72, it's a nice piece!

Sixpack...the green Satellite has been there for at least 3-4 maybe 5 years. Everytime I have been there, they tell me a different story and price. If I recall it does have some lower quarter panel damage on (I think) the passengers side. I had some old pics of it from 2007 or 2008 swap meet but they were on an old computer that crashed. I want to say at that time they wanted either $2800 or $3200. I can't recall exactly but I know it has been there a loooonnnggg time.

Wow, that sucks! Most of their other cars are in the 1000-1600 range for projects. Maybe they think since Mopars became so hot that even base cars are worth a mint. I will check anyway when I get back. I love walking around the yard even if I don't buy anything. Like I said, It has been over a year since I saw the car. I just kept thinking about it over the past few months. I wish I would have taken a few more pics.

Do you live in the Belton area?

I was packing up yesterday to ship a box and pulled my older laptop out and looked at some pictures before It goes back to the states. I found a picture of the satellite that was high resolution and zoomed in on the passenger corner of the car. It says 3800 on the windshield! I think that is a bit steep for a potentially non running car that needs a lot of work. 2000 might be closer to what I would be willing to pay. It needs some body work. I guess it will continue to sit there.

I have always liked the '71's because I think they look cool. But I do like the '72's better. I like the smaller side marker lights on the 72. Also I think the 72's improved the looks of the grill and the rear bumper. Some folks will disagree but personally I like the little improvements made to an already fantastic looking car. Thank you for your service. I was a Marine during the late 60's and I am very happy to be done with that part of my life but once a Marine always a Marine. Simper Fi 'till I die.
