You know I have been driving my car on the street with the 493 since last June. I drove it 90 miles to Carlisle and the 90 mile round trip to the track. But I really have never floored it on the street. I hit it some like 1/2 way to 3/4 maybe but on the highway I only blib it a little to pass someone. Well yesterday some dude thinks he is going to be cool in his Chevy truck and decides to tailgate me which I dont like. So I decided to hit it hard and I swear I still did not floor it but I hit it enough to open the secondaries on my 850 DP. All I can say is wow ! Its a manual valve body and I dont need no kickdown as I hit it kinda hard at 60 MPH and I thought it was going to lay rubber it got up and pulled so hard. Within about 3 seconds I think I was doing about 100 mph and then let out as thats the hardest I have ever hit it on the street. When I say it pulled like a freight train I mean it as it would have crushed my old 440 combo. Needless to say the truck was a pepple in my rear veiw mirrow after that. Ron

it sure puts a grinn on an old mans face. the next part of the rush is opening the cut outs.

My 62' gives me that "tingle" too. Most of the time I just plod around carefully with it because it is a real handful if you hit it too hard at slow speeds but every now and then I just hafta nail it for the rush. Nothing like 650+hp pushing you back in the seat - except maybe 750 hp :). So far I'm ok with traction as long as I'm going at least 50mph when I hit it and I'm in 3rd gear.. anything less or in lower gear and the rear starts floating.

Ron,
enjoy it!!!!!!!!!!!
It's why we spend all our hard earned money and break our backs working on these cars.....................

Ron;it's stories like that which get me thinking "STROKER" for the Sport Fury. Then it's just a matter of 493 vs. 505 inches. Nice dilemma to have,eh?

Yeah baby, I do that all the time same thing I said with my 493 WOW could not believe how fast the car pulled away and when you look back it looks like a mile.

lol nice job ;) :headbang:

Thanks for all the kind replies. I do love this hobby. If anyone building a new eng can go stroker it is worth it for the torque the beast will make ! Makes me love driving my car that much more. :hello2: Ron

Stroker

I know what you mean, installed my 400-499 stroker last summer, and I tell you it's always fun gettiing behind the wheel of my 73 roadrunner now, I have had fast cars before but now wow. 550 + hp is a lot of fun!!! Have fun be carefull . It does want to spin the tires at any speed in 3rd gear, 4 speed 410 gears. Ya baby.

I know what you mean! I drive my 63 Polara daily...and it always puts a HUGE smile on my face every time I have to merge onto the interstate and I get to wind the 440 out a little bit! That incredible torque coupled to a 4 speed just makes it that much better! It gets bad enough gas mileage as it is, but I just cant help but to open those secondaries and let her fly! I do eventually plan on going to a stroker kit, but for now the 440 is plenty for me :)

The 440 that was in the car ran good as it had run 11.49 @ 116. And I thought it had a lot of torque which it did but once I drove this bad boy and found out how much more this stroker had it was like...........wow this is a bad machine !! :3gears: Ron

Love the mopars here , just got turned on to this site and like what I see , nice fury 383 !!!
