Actually, a hole punch....a Greenlee knock out punch to be exact. Makes a much cleaner hole than a saw does. And I know about those heavy *** E body doors!! lol. But they also can give up a lot of weight too when that danged side impact protection rail is removed....Cranky's door shows great use of the hole saw. Could even hole saw the window apply arm. Doors sure not the same as a stock E Body!!
Well, a stock 3370 weight car would be one that came with a /6 but mine also was an automatic and had a working AC. I'm finally getting back to working on it after taking it apart several years back and am still massaging parts for weight. The K frame that's going back in weighs 32 lbs which is 10 lbs lighter than it was stock and is now solid welded. As for the engine....I have a stock bore 440 that's been sitting on the engine stand for longer than the car has been apart but I want to build a stock stroke 400 with at least 10.5-1 and aluminum heads, aftermarket rods etc etc. Have the heads and just about everything needed to build it up but the block needs to be prepped and on and on. The 440 is ready to drop in so it will probably get the nod then go to work on the 400 and enjoy the car some. The motor is 10.3 with closed chambered heads, 'mild' cam, titanium retainers, Isky ductile iron rockers and a few other goodies...Mind Sharing the engine combo?
Didn't have one at that time and now the AC is gone along with the heater box and will now wear a lightened K frame too. So now it's around 2900? Kinda hard to tell since it's still in pieces....and I'm still working on weight removal. The only thing fiberglass on it was the hood and that thing was a pile. Not sure if I'm going to strengthen it and repair the shoddy workmanship or get another. It's not exactly smooth either. The /6 and auto is gone and hopefully a low deck with plenty of aluminum will replace it.Cranky, ya the Greenlee punches do a really nice job on sheet metal. Expensive, but if you only need a few sizes, they do work great. At 2950 does your Belvedere have a roll bar? Wish I could get my Satellite down to 3200#.
Really?! I had a fairly long novel typed saying what all I've done to my car but why. You're a doubter and nothing I can say is going to change that. A 65 Dodge what? 2dr post? What I would like to know is what his car weighed BEFORE he started taking weight off. When you start with a car that's light to begin with, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to get rid of 400+ lbs.....and I'm still working on removing weight. Even the nuts and bolts are getting attention but what's funny about all of this is the car still has ALL of it's factory window glass and except for the hood and front bumper, it's ALL steel! And I've owned the car for 28 years.....I doubt 2900. Lee has been working on his 65 Dodge for years. It has EVERY trick in the book and plenty of tricks no one else has even thought of. Lots of titainium and aluminum. Its still over 3000 w/o driver.
